Australians flying to Hanoi, or more broadly, Vietnam, will need a visa prior to their trip. There are several ways to obtain a visa for Vietnam. Let’s break it down…

• e-Visa: You can apply for an e-Visa online via the official Vietnamese government website. The process can take around 3-5 business days, so make sure you plan accordingly. This will grant you a single-entry, 30-day visa in Vietnam. There are specific ports you must arrive through in Vietnam, with Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport being one of them. 
• Visa on Arrival (with pre-approved entry letter): While it’s called a ‘visa on arrival’, you’ll need to get a pre-approved entry letter before your trip. You can get these from authorised visa processing agencies. Many use this option if they’re running out of time to wait for an e-Visa. A Visa on Arrival is usually processed relatively quickly — sometimes within the same day. Once approved, print the letter, bring it with you, and get your passport stamped at the airport. Make sure to bring cash for the stamping fee. Once approved at the airport, you’ll be granted a single-entry, 30-day stay in Vietnam.

Apply through official channels and ensure you have all the correct details on your e-Visa to avoid delays or additional costs at the airport. Further, ensure that your passport has at least 6 months' validity beyond your arrival date in Vietnam, as well as at least 2 blank pages for stamping.
