Sabah is situated in the beautiful island of Borneo and shares the island with Sarawak, Brunei and Kalimantan, Indonesia. Also known as The Land Below the Sea because of this strategic location of being south of the Typhoon prone region, Sabah is the second largest state in Malaysia and is surrounded by the South China Sea in the West, the Sulu Sea in the Northeast and Celebes Sea in the East. Sabah also houses 32 different indigenous groups that consists of over 30 ethnic races, making Sabah a state rich in a diverse of unique culture and heritage.

How to go to Sabah

By Flight

The main means of transportation to reach Sabah from the Peninsular is by flight. It is well connected domestically and internationally with the largest hub being in Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA). Most of the other major towns in Sabah including Sandakan, Lahat Datu and Tawau have airports for domestic flights.

By Bus

Travelling by bus is the most economic mode of transportation to travel between cities and town in Sabah. The main bus stations are North Bus Terminal Inanam, Padang Merdeka (Merdeka Square) and Wawasan Bus Terminal.

By Boat

Island destinations in Sabah are accessible by boat services. Jesselton Point is the most populat boat terminal for tourists who are planning to visit islands (Manukan, Sapi Mamutik and Gaya) of Kota Kinabalu.

Kabili Sepilok Forest Reserve

The Sepilok Orangutan Center is located here and also protects a fraction of tropical lowland Dipterocarp forest which also includes a small coverage of mangrove swamp. This forest reserve protects orangutans that have been rescued, rehabilitated and released into the forest.

Tabin Wildlife Reserve

Houses a large number of animals inhabiting the forest, having some that are highly endangered. Three of the largest mammals in Sabah, mainly Borneo Pygmy Elephant, Sumatran Rhinoceros and Tembadau (Borneo Wild Cattle), 8 primates’ species, 3 species of cats that are in the protected wildlife list, alon with 42 families representing 220 species of birds can also be found in this reserve.

Sipadan Island

Go diving in one of the best sites in the world where visitors can be fascinated by a large variety of soft corals, sea turtles, lobsters, barracudas, beautiful coral fishes and many more. No matter if visitors would like to snorkel or dive, either one will give them a great underwater adventure in the crystal clear waters.
