It’s one of Indonesia’s busiest short hops; it’s a quick hour in the air from city bustle to beach sandals. Fly from Surabaya to Bali, Indonesia’s Island of the Gods – the go-to island escape where surf, ceremony, and slow mornings meet. After landing at Denpasar’s Ngurah Rai International Airport, head straight for Seminyak Beach cafés and beach clubs, Canggu’s surf breaks and coffee haunts, or Ubud’s rice terraces and Monkey Forest. Watch the Kecak Dance at Uluwatu Temple, climb Mount Batur for sunrise, or sit down to a seafood feast on the sands at Jimbaran Bay.
Airlines flying direct from Surabaya to Bali
Whether you’re chasing full-service comfort or just the cheapest seat going, these airlines will get you to Denpasar with minimal fuss:
When flying direct, it takes around 1 hours and 0 minutes to travel from Surabaya’s Juanda International Airport (SUB) to Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS). The flight is quick. You’ll take off over East Java and land before you’ve had time to settle in.
Averaging to about AU$50 each way, fares on the Surabaya–Bali route usually range between AU$42 and AU$73, with the lowest current deals from AU$47.
Prices rise during July to September and late December, when both Australian and Indonesian travellers bound for Seminyak Beach, Canggu, and Nusa Dua fill flights.
Booking one to two months ahead generally lands the best value, especially if you set a Traveloka Flight Alert to catch fare drops. You can also watch for major Traveloka’s sales like Boxing Day, EOFY, and Click Frenzy Travel, where short-term coupons and flash deals often cut fares even further.
The best value months are typically January to March, when the wet season brings brief afternoon rain but lighter crowds and lower hotel rates. It’s an ideal stretch for cheap Bali holidays and quieter beaches.
Fares climb again from July to September and through December’s holiday rush, when the dry-season weather and school breaks pull travellers back to the beaches. If your timing’s flexible, mid-week flights usually come in cheaper than weekends (an excellent reason to keep that Traveloka Flight Alert switched on).
Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) (AKA Denpasar Airport) sits in Tuban, around 13 kilometres south of Denpasar and a short drive from Bali’s main resort areas. You can reach Kuta in 15–20 minutes, Seminyak in around half an hour, and Nusa Dua in about 35 minutes - depending on southern Bali’s notorious traffic, of course.
You can book a Traveloka Airport Transfer or car hire for a smooth arrival, or grab a Blue Bird taxi or Grab ride outside Arrivals. Most hotels offer pre-arranged pickups, while rental desks and private drivers inside the terminal make it easy to head farther to Ubud, Canggu, or the Bukit Peninsula – three of Bali’s most popular travel spots.
Aussies can get a Visa on Arrival (VOA) or e-VOA when entering Indonesia, valid for 30 days and extendable once if you decide to stay longer. It costs about IDR 500,000 (around AU$50) and can be paid by card or cash at the airport.
There’s also a tourism levy of IDR 150,000 (roughly AU$15), which you can pay online or at the terminal before clearing arrivals. From 1 September 2025, all travellers need to fill out the All Indonesia Declaration Form within three days before arrival.
Just make sure your passport’s in good shape, has at least six months’ validity left, and that you’ve got proof of onward travel handy.
Both cities follow Central Indonesia Time (UTC +8), so there’s no adjustment needed.
More than just flights, Traveloka helps you plan every part of your Bali holiday, from stays near Seminyak Beach or Ubud’s rice terraces to attraction tickets, island tours, and surf lessons along the coast.
