I had a wonderful stay at Princesa Garden Island Resort on Christmas Eve! The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring a seamless check-in and a comfortable experience throughout. My room was clean, spacious, and well-equipped with all the necessary amenities. One of the highlights was the thoughtful gesture of giving a gift to our toddler, which made the holiday season even more special. The breakfast buffet and festive decorations added a cozy touch to our stay. I highly recommend this hotel and look forward to staying again in the future!

We had a pleasant stay at Panja Resort. The staff are friendly. The place is near Baker's Hill (one of the tourist spots included in the city tour), around 10-15 minutes' walk from the hotel. Mitra's Ranch is also near it, but we were not able to go there due to our time limit. They also have a free ride from and to Robinsons mall. You may want to check their schedules. Also, they have free airport transfer from the hotel (only).

The accommodation is worth the price. The room is clean and the front desk catered to our needs as expected. Staffs are approachable too. Breakfast is good though it's a small portion. It's okay though, we had a breakfast buffet on our last day there. There's also a free shuttle service going to the airport. All in all, it was a good experience.

For an authentic dining experience, exploring the local markets and food streets in neighbourhoods like San Pedro and Puerto Princesa is highly recommended. These areas are brimming with eateries, from humble carinderias (local eateries) serving home-style Filipino meals to more established restaurants offering a wider menu. For Muslim travellers, seeking out restaurants that clearly label their Halal options or inquiring about preparation methods is advisable, as while pork is common, many establishments can cater to specific dietary needs with chicken, fish, or vegetable dishes.

The affordability of dining in Bagong Bayan is a significant draw for international travellers. Street food and meals at local carinderias can be enjoyed for as little as ₱100-₱200 (approximately $2-4 USD), offering incredible value. Mid-range restaurants typically charge between ₱400-₱800 (approximately $8-16 USD) per person for a full meal, which is considerably less than what travellers from the US or Europe might expect to pay back home. Even upscale dining experiences remain relatively affordable, making Bagong Bayan a destination for food lovers on any budget.

Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Bagong Bayan

Understanding and respecting local customs is key to a harmonious visit in Bagong Bayan. Filipinos are known for their hospitality and politeness, and a simple "po" and "opo" (used to show respect, especially to elders) can go a long way. Public displays of affection are generally more reserved than in Western cultures. When visiting homes, it's customary to bring a small gift, and always remove your shoes before entering. Being mindful of these nuances will foster positive interactions with the local community.

When exploring Bagong Bayan, dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites or more traditional neighbourhoods. While beachwear is acceptable at resorts, covering up when in towns or cities is advisable. Always ask for permission before taking photographs of people, particularly in rural areas. Queuing is generally orderly, and patience is appreciated. In markets and shops, bargaining is common but should be done politely and with a smile; aggressive haggling is frowned upon.

Safety in Bagong Bayan is generally good, with locals being very helpful and vigilant. However, as with any travel destination, it's wise to take precautions. Keep valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. For transportation, stick to reputable taxi services or use ride-hailing apps like Grab, which are widely available and offer fare transparency. Having offline maps and essential contact numbers readily accessible on your phone can be invaluable for navigation and emergencies.

In case of emergencies, the local police can be reached at 117. For medical assistance, hospitals are available in the main urban centres. It's always recommended for Filipino travellers to have travel insurance for unforeseen medical expenses or emergencies. While Bagong Bayan is part of the Philippines, it's prudent to confirm any specific travel advisories issued by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) before your trip, though generally, the region is considered safe for domestic and international tourists alike.

The best time to visit Bagong Bayan generally falls within the dry season, from November to May, offering sunny days and pleasant temperatures ideal for outdoor activities and beach visits. This period coincides with peak tourist season, so expect higher hotel prices and more crowds, particularly around Christmas, New Year, and Easter holidays, which also align with major school breaks in the US and Europe. For those seeking fewer crowds and lower prices, the shoulder months of November and May, or the early part of the wet season (June-October), can still offer enjoyable weather with more budget-friendly options.

Your Philippine passport is sufficient for identification and entry into any region within the country. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) mandates that your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay, and it is always advisable to have at least six months of validity remaining to avoid any unforeseen issues, though for domestic travel, this is less critical than for international journeys.

As you are a Filipino citizen travelling within the Philippines, the standard entry requirements for international travellers do not apply. You do not need to worry about visa applications, processing times, or fees.
