About Bangka / Pangkal Pinang

Pangkal Pinang is the capital city and largest city in the Bangka Belitung Islands region of Indonesia. Located on the East Coast of Bangka Island. The city is divided into seven districts and has 42 wards. According to the census conducted in 2010, Pangkal Pinang has an area of 118.41 square kilometres and a population of 328,167. The population density of the city is about 2,800 per square kilometre. Muhammad Irwansyah is the Mayor of Pangkal Pinang. Previously, Zulkarnain Karim became the mayor for two terms from 2003 to 2013. Rangkui River divided the city into two parts. Jalan Merdeka is its geographical centre. The Pangkal Pinang population consists mainly of ethnic Malays and Chinese Hakka originating from Guangzhou. There are also smaller immigrant communities from other ethnic groups such as Batak and Minangkabau. The landmark in Pangkal Pinang is like the Tin Museum, Chinese Temple, St. Joseph Cathedral, Bangka Botanical Garden and also Pasir Padi Beach. Five out of seven districts in Pangkal Pinang namely Rangkui, Bukit Intan, Palu Balam, Taman Sari and Gerunggang.

Depati Amir Airport, also known as Pangkal Pinang Airport, is an airport located in Pangkal Pinang City in Bangka Belitung Islands, Indonesia. This airport is managed by PT. Angkasa Pura II since January 2007. It was initially named Pangkal Pinang Airport since the Japanese occupation in 1942 as a defence against allied troops. On 25 August 1999, Pangkal Pinang Airport was transformed into Amir Banga Airport. This airport is a public airport. It also became the focus airport for NAM Air and Sriwijaya Air. The new airport terminal was finally operational on January 11, 2017. With an investment of about 300 billion rupiah. Construction of the terminal will increase the passenger capacity of 350 thousand passengers a year to more than 1.5 million passengers a year. The new terminal building is located on an area of 12 thousand square meters in a land area of 152 hectares. However, it only operated for domestic flights. The new terminal also has a modern design and comes with extra facilities such as a dining room, executive lounge, internet facilities, toilets for disabled persons, rooms for mothers and children. Other facilities include 12 check-in counters, three exits, and two jet bridges. The new parking facility now accommodates 300 cars and 120 motorcycles.
