Kepong is a town in the northern area of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is in the area of Sentul, district of Gombak. In Malay, the word ‘kepong’ gives the meaning of ‘enclose’ or ‘surround’. This is also due to the fact that the area is surrounded by a mountain range. The people there use the normal Bahasa Melayu as the main language to communicate. This is due to the fact that this city is multiracial. Another language that is commonly used is English. These 2 languages help those of different background to communicate despite the differences.

How to Get There

By Plane

There are flights to Kuala Lumpur provided by many airlines. Some of them are Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia and Malindo Airways. From the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 1 or 2, guests may hail up a taxi to Kepong.

By Car

Kepong is just a little outskirt from Kuala Lumpur. Therefore those who are driving from other states of Malaysia may take the North South Expressway exiting at Kuala Lumpur. Getting there will not be a problem as all the navigation system will have it in their systems already.

By Train

From Seremban or other parts of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, they may take the commuter as there will a station right in the heart of Kepong. The fare is only below RM10 per way. Therefore, tourists can actually enjoy the ride at a very low fare. If tourists want to take the commuter from the airport, they may do so too however they do have to change some trains as they are of different routes.

FRIM Kepong (Forest Research Institute Malaysia)

This is a government project that aims to educate everyone more on the research and the care for the forest. There are all sorts of trees grown in this area and is cared for. Public can actually come to the park and enjoy an evening of recreational while getting to know the trees here. There is also a waterfall that can be visited by the visitors. The park is very taken care off; it would feel like being in an actual forest. By having this park, it is hoped that it can create awareness to the mass on the importance of taking care of the forest.

Kepong Metropolitan Park

Kepong Metropolitan Park or also known as Kite Flying Park is located in Kepong itself. It is a big park circling a big lake designated specifically for recreation. A lot of people come here to jog, cycle and fly their kites. There are tracks build for those who wants to jog and cycle. The huge 90 acre field is suitable for those wanting to fly kites. There are also small vendors selling kites of many shapes and sizes as well as snacks. Due to this, many come here to have a picnic too. There is a watch tower that people can go up to and see the view of Kuala Lumpur at a higher standpoint.
