It has been established recently in 1996 and the development work has been carried out by Land and General Berhad before being taken over by TA Global ever since. Historically, the township in a whole as the Petaling Jaya district was under the jurisdiction of the Kuala Lumpur district officer prior to year 1953. Later in 2006, Petaling Jaya is granted the city status and a mayor has been appointed, making the municipality council upgraded again to the current city council. Petaling Jaya or Bandar Sri Damansara in specific houses some of the major shopping malls in the Klang Valley which drives its economy such as One Utama, Ikano Power Centre, The Curve and Ikea.
