My first time at this hotel. It's a luxury hotel, but they often have promotional prices. There's a swimming pool, gym, cool air conditioning, and friendly staff. The service is excellent. We asked the customer service at IG Hotel about charging our electric car, and the staff responded promptly. Thank you to the security team, especially the chief, Mr. Mus, who welcomed us with open arms. Five thumbs up. If you want to go to Blok M, you're just a short walk across the street, hehe.

It turns out that the Zebra room option can accommodate 10 adults because it has 1 King bed and 4 single beds. The area is very child-friendly and there are many outdoor activities for children to do. The water park is not too large but this is good because it makes it easier to control the guards when there are many playing in the pool area. Around the area there is also a lake where the Black Swan parked and there is a collection of animals such as elephants, giraffes, reptiles, etc. Thank you so much to all Royal Safari staff

We had a very satisfying and enjoyable staycation at Eastparc Hotel with our family. The kids had so many activities to choose from, and it felt like one night wouldn't be enough. Luckily, the hotel allows guests to enjoy the facilities and rides before and after check-in, so the kids could try everything without missing a thing. Check-in was easy and fast, and our room was ready an hour and a half before the normal check-in time. We got a room with a really cool pool view. The room was comfortable and safe enough for an active crawling baby (it had a carpet, an extra bed, and a childproof socket), so mom could relax. The staff was also friendly and helpful. Incidentally, there was a brief earthquake while we were in the room, and the staff quickly directed us to the emergency stairs. Even downstairs, staff were quick to offer us drinking water and slippers (because my dad and older sister forgot their slippers while running, hehe). The 24-hour customer service was also responsive when asked for assistance. Hopefully, we'll have another opportunity to stay here again, and the facilities can continue to improve in terms of quantity and quality :)

Indonesia: An Archipelago of Wonders for the Singaporean Explorer

Indonesia, a sprawling archipelago nation, presents a captivating mosaic of experiences that beckon travellers from Singapore. Beyond the familiar, it offers a profound immersion into nature's grandeur, a culinary landscape that tantalizes the senses, and a varied mix of arts and culture waiting to be discovered. From the emerald rice paddies of Bali to the ancient temples of Java and the pristine underwater worlds of Raja Ampat, the sheer variety ensures that each visit can unfold as a completely unique adventure. This vastness is precisely what makes Indonesia such a compelling destination for those seeking to broaden their horizons just a short journey from home. The sheer diversity across Indonesia means that a single trip can feel like visiting multiple countries, each with its own distinct character and allure. Whether you're drawn to the sophisticated urban pulse of Jakarta Pusat, the artistic enclaves of Bandung, the coastal charm of Balikpapan, or the cultural heart of Makassar, there's a corner of Indonesia perfectly suited to your travel aspirations. Even within major cities, distinct neighbourhoods like Blok M or Kebayoran Baru in Jakarta offer unique atmospheres, catering to different tastes and interests, from bustling commercial hubs to more serene residential areas. For Singaporean travellers, understanding the value proposition is key. With an average price starting from just S$30 per night for accommodation and an impressive overall review score of 8.4 from over 20 million guest experiences, Indonesia offers exceptional value. This translates to more opportunities to explore, indulge in local experiences, and perhaps even extend your stay. The high volume of reviews also signifies a mature tourism infrastructure, providing a sense of confidence and reliability for those planning their itineraries. Consider the allure of Yogyakarta, a city renowned for its deep cultural heritage and artistic soul. It’s a place where ancient traditions meet contemporary creativity, offering a glimpse into the heart of Javanese culture. Here, you can witness traditional batik making, explore magnificent royal palaces, and marvel at the grandeur of Borobudur Temple. For Singaporeans looking to connect with history and art, Yogyakarta provides an accessible and enriching experience, and finding the perfect place to stay is made easy when you book hotel through Traveloka. Indonesia's appeal is remarkably broad, catering to a wide spectrum of travellers. Families will find numerous resorts and villas offering child-friendly amenities and spacious accommodations, particularly in areas like Bali or Bandung. Couples seeking romantic escapes can discover boutique hotels and serene retreats in places like Ubud or the highlands. Solo adventurers will appreciate the ease of navigation and the wealth of cultural and natural attractions across the archipelago, while business travellers can find well-equipped hotels in major cities like Jakarta and Surabaya.

Best Areas to Stay in Indonesia

Indonesia is not a monolithic destination; its charm lies in the distinct personalities of its cities and regions. Food & Dining

A Culinary Journey Through Indonesia

Indonesia's culinary landscape is as diverse and captivating as its geography, offering a symphony of flavours that reflect centuries of cultural exchange and regional distinctiveness. For Singaporean travellers, the opportunity to explore this gastronomic destination is often a primary motivation for visiting. From the fiery sambals of Java to the rich coconut-based curries of Sumatra and the fresh seafood of Sulawesi, Indonesian cuisine promises an adventure for the palate, with dishes that are both familiar in their use of spices and unique in their preparation and taste profiles. The archipelago's most iconic dish, Nasi Goreng, is a reflection of this culinary richness. While Singaporeans are familiar with fried rice, Indonesia's version often features a distinct sweet soy sauce (kecap manis) and a variety of toppings, from fried egg to satay. Another must-try is Rendang, a slow-cooked meat dish, typically beef, simmered in coconut milk and a complex blend of spices until tender and flavourful. For those seeking something lighter, Satay, grilled skewers of marinated meat served with peanut sauce, is a universally loved delicacy found across the nation. Halal food is widely available throughout Indonesia, given its status as the world's most populous Muslim-majority country. Major cities and tourist areas offer numerous certified halal restaurants, warungs (local eateries), and street food vendors. In regions like Aceh or West Java, traditional cuisine is inherently halal. Even in more diverse areas, it's generally easy to find options that cater to Muslim dietary requirements, with many establishments clearly indicating their halal status or being known for their adherence to Islamic principles. The regional variations in Indonesian cuisine are profound, offering a compelling reason to explore different parts of the country. For instance, Padang cuisine from West Sumatra is famous for its rich, spicy dishes served in a 'lick your fingers' style, where small portions of various dishes are laid out, and you pay for what you eat. In contrast, Balinese cuisine often incorporates local spices, herbs, and sometimes pork, reflecting its Hindu heritage. Exploring these regional specialties provides a deeper understanding and appreciation of Indonesia's cultural tapestry. When dining in Indonesia, a few practical tips can enhance the experience for Singaporean visitors. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service, typically around 10% in higher-end establishments. Meal times are generally similar to Singapore, with lunch being the main meal of the day. Be adventurous and try local warungs for authentic flavours at affordable prices. Learning a few basic Indonesian phrases like "terima kasih" (thank you) can also go a long way in fostering positive interactions with locals.

Local Etiquette & Safety

Navigating a new culture involves understanding its social nuances and ensuring personal safety, and Indonesia, with its rich traditions, offers a unique set of considerations for Singaporean travellers. While generally a welcoming nation, being aware of local customs and safety practices will undoubtedly lead to a more comfortable and enriching journey, allowing you to engage more deeply with the local way of life. One of the most important aspects of Indonesian etiquette is the concept of "sopan santun" (politeness). Always use your right hand for giving and receiving items, as the left hand is traditionally considered unclean. When visiting someone's home or a formal establishment, it's customary to remove your shoes before entering. Public displays of affection should be kept to a minimum, and it's advisable to dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites or rural areas, to show respect for local customs and traditions. When visiting religious sites, such as mosques or temples, adherence to dress codes is paramount. This typically involves covering shoulders and knees; many sites provide sarongs or headscarves for visitors who need them. It's also customary to be quiet and respectful within these sacred spaces. For commercial attractions, while queueing culture might differ slightly from Singapore, patience and courtesy are always appreciated. Observing how locals interact can provide valuable cues on appropriate behaviour. For personal safety, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings, particularly in crowded markets or tourist areas, and to keep valuables secure. While Indonesia is generally safe, petty theft can occur. Opting for reputable transportation services, such as ride-hailing apps like Grab or Gojek (where available) or official taxis, is recommended. These services offer transparent pricing and a degree of accountability, providing a more secure way to navigate cities compared to unmetered options. In case of emergencies, the general emergency number in Indonesia is 112. For Singaporean citizens travelling abroad, it's always prudent to register your travel with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and to have the contact details for the nearest Singapore Embassy or High Commission readily available. Ensuring you have adequate travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and unforeseen circumstances is also a crucial step in preparing for a safe and worry-free trip.

Travel Guide to Indonesia

Getting to Indonesia and Getting Around

For Singaporean travellers, reaching Indonesia is remarkably convenient, with frequent flights connecting Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) to numerous Indonesian destinations. Major airlines like Singapore Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, and budget carriers such as Scoot and AirAsia operate numerous daily services. Flight durations are short, typically ranging from 1.5 hours to Jakarta to around 2.5 hours to further destinations like Bali or Makassar, with prices varying based on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets. Navigating within Indonesia offers a variety of options, catering to different travel styles and budgets. For inter-island travel, domestic flights are the most efficient way to cover long distances, with carriers like Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, and Citilink connecting major cities. For travel between cities on the same island, particularly Java and Sumatra, trains offer a comfortable and scenic experience, while buses provide a more extensive network, albeit with longer travel times. Car rentals and ride-hailing services are readily available in most urban centres. The best time to visit Indonesia from Singapore generally aligns with the dry season, which typically runs from May to September. During these months, you can expect less rainfall and more sunshine, making it ideal for exploring outdoor attractions, beaches, and natural landscapes. However, this period also coincides with peak tourist season, meaning higher prices for flights and accommodation, and larger crowds at popular sites. The shoulder months of April and October can offer a good balance of favourable weather and fewer tourists. Before embarking on your Indonesian adventure, a few pre-departure preparations are essential. The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). While exchange rates fluctuate, it's useful to have a general idea of how it compares to the Singapore Dollar (SGD) for budgeting. Purchasing a local SIM card upon arrival is highly recommended for affordable data and communication. Essential apps to download include ride-hailing services like Grab, translation apps, and offline maps. Ensure your passport has at least six months of validity remaining.

Visa Requirements for Singaporean Citizens Travelling to Indonesia

As a Singaporean passport holder, you will be pleased to know that entry into Indonesia is generally straightforward and convenient. For short-term tourist stays, Singaporean citizens are typically granted visa-free entry into Indonesia. This allows for a significant period of stay, usually up to 30 days, making it easy for spontaneous trips or longer explorations of the archipelago without the need for prior visa application. To benefit from the visa-free entry, ensure your passport is valid for at least six months from your date of arrival in Indonesia. You may also be asked to present proof of onward travel, such as a return or onward flight ticket, and sufficient funds to cover your stay. While visa policies can be subject to change, for most tourist purposes, Singaporeans can enjoy a hassle-free entry process, allowing them to focus on planning their Indonesian itinerary. It is always advisable to verify the latest visa regulations and entry requirements with the official Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in Singapore or the Directorate General of Immigration of Indonesia prior to your travel. This ensures you have the most up-to-date information regarding permitted length of stay, any potential fees, and specific documentation required. Staying informed will guarantee a smooth and pleasant arrival experience in Indonesia.
