Baggage Restrictions

Cabin Baggage

Every passenger is entitled to bring up to 7kg of cabin baggage with them. There are options to upgrae to more directly with the airline. If you're travelling on a domestic flight, you will be able to bring liquids in your cabin bag that are greater than 100ml per container. So feel free to take your favourite shampoo!

Check-in times

Check-in for domestic flights closes 40 minutes prior to departure, and international flights close 60 minutes prior to departure. Considering you'll need to go through security (and customs for international departures), we do recommend arriving with much more time to spare.

Jetstar deals and promotions you should know about

Jetstar frequently rolls out a variety of deals and promotions that appeal to budget-savvy travellers – including us! From seasonal discounts to exclusive offers, Jetstar ensures that exploring new destinations is within reach for everyone.

A few regular sales to look out for include:

  • Return for free sales: Sporadic throughout the year, Jetstar will offer a free return fare when you buy an outbound ticket. Japan has become a popular destination in this sale, with fares going for as low as $300 return from Australia.
  • Friday and Weekend Fare Frenzies: Every Friday (unless there’s another sale on) Jetstar offers a “fare frenzy” with discounted flights for either a few hours on Friday or running through the weekend.
  • End of Financial Year: Kicking off sometime in June, Jetstar often discounts fares as part of the country-wide end of financial year sales
  • Black Friday: On the fourth Friday in November (he day after American Thanksgiving), Jetstar joins the sale party and heavily discounts fares over the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend.
  • Boxing Day: Just because Christmas is over, it doesn’t mean the gifts end because Jetstar often offers a Boxing Day flight sale where you can score cheap flights in the year to come.

Booking with Traveloka can help you unlock all of these impressive savings, giving you more room in your budget for experiences and activities. You’ll also be able to easily compare Jetstar’s prices to other airlines with just one search so you know you’re actually getting a good deal.

Jetstar destinations in Australia

Jetstar international destinations

Jetstar Australia does partner with Jetstar Japan on some international routes, so you may need to connect to reach your final destination. Unfortunately Jetstar Asia ceased operations in July 2025, so some destinations in places like Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand that were previously on the above list are no longer part of the Jetstar network.

Tips for booking the best Jetstar deals

To secure the best Jetstar deals, savvy travellers employ various strategies that take advantage of fluctuating prices and promotional offers. One of the most effective methods is monitoring fare prices regularly. And we make that super easy with our Price Alert notifications. You can turn it on for any route and date, and can even opt to only see direct flights, to see when fares drop.

Jetstar's prices can change frequently, so setting up fare alerts can notify you of significant drops, allowing you to book at the most reasonable time. This vigilance can result in substantial savings, especially when combined with other strategies.

We also recommend keeping a close eye on Jetstar's regular sales; and there's plenty of them. We've listed out some of our favourites, but are especially fond of the Friday and Weekend Fare Frenzies, Birthday Sale, Return for Free sales and Black Friday deals.

Booking during off-peak times is another way to maximise your savings with Jetstar. Travelling on weekdays or during less popular seasons can lead to lower fares and a more relaxed travel experience. Additionally, being flexible with your travel dates and destinations can open up a more comprehensive range of options, increasing your chances of finding the best deals. Consider shifting your travel plans by a day or two or exploring alternative airports to uncover hidden discounts.

Avoid travelling during any peak travel periods for Australians, including school holidays, Christmas and over New Year’s to get the best prices.

Leveraging Jetstar's reward programs and special promotions can further enhance your savings. Frequent flyers can benefit from Jetstar's Club Jetstar, which offers exclusive member-only fares and early access to sales events. By planning your travels around these promotions, you can enjoy perks and discounts that add value to your adventure-seeking pursuits. Whether you're a seasoned jet-setter or a first-time explorer, these tips can help you make the most of Jetstar's offerings.
