The Leuwi Panjang Terminal, constructed in 1994 and commenced operations in 1996, took over the role of the Kebon Kalapa Terminal, which now functions as a shopping center, ITC Kebon Kalapa. Nonetheless, the area around ITC Kebon Kalapa is still frequently used as a terminal for several routes of Bandung's public minibuses. The inauguration of the Leuwipanjang Terminal was officiated by Wahyu Hamidjaja, the then-mayor, and witnessed by the Head of the Terminal's Technical Implementation Unit (UPT), Edi Kurnaedi.

In 2019, the Ministry of Transportation initiated a project to revitalize and modernize Type A bus terminals in nine cities, including the Leuwi Panjang Terminal in Bandung. As part of this initiative, the management of the terminal was transferred from the Bandung City Transportation Agency to the Ministry of Transportation. Construction began in early 2020 with a budget of 80 billion and is expected to be completed by early 2022. The Leuwi Panjang Terminal is planned to become a modern terminal adopting a digital information system for integrated fleet management, similar to those found at airports.
