Terminal Tirtonadi is the largest type A bus terminal located in Surakarta. Situated in the Banjarsari district, this terminal operates around the clock, 24 hours a day. Its strategic role is to serve as a major connecting hub between bus routes coming from the east (East Java) and those from the west, including Central Java, Yogyakarta, West Java, and DKI Jakarta.

About Tirtonadi Terminal

Terminal Tirtonadi began operations in 1975. At that time, the area to the east of Taman Tirtonadi was a residential neighborhood and an open field. This location was chosen to replace the old Harjodaksino Bus Terminal, which was no longer suitable for development. The choice of location was based on its strategic position on the outskirts of Solo, specifically in the northern part of the city, and its proximity to major interprovincial roads.

The terminal features two main entrances: the west and the east. The west entrance serves passengers arriving from the east of Solo, including Wonogiri, Sragen, and several major cities in East Java, who continue their journey westward to Central Java, Yogyakarta, West Java, and DKI Jakarta and Banten. The west entrance has five departure shelters, with five dedicated to intercity routes with scheduled terminal parking and one for rural transport and intercity routes without scheduled parking.

On the other hand, the east entrance caters to passengers coming from the west of Solo, including Central Java, Yogyakarta, West Java, and DKI Jakarta, heading east towards cities like Wonogiri, Sragen, and other major cities in East Java. The east entrance has four departure shelters, similarly divided: four for intercity routes with scheduled terminal parking and one for rural transport and intercity routes without scheduled parking.

Following various revitalizations and renovations, Terminal Tirtonadi now appears cleaner, more comfortable, and more passenger-friendly. Additionally, the terminal offers significant extra facilities. On the second floor, there are a convention hall and a sport center, expanding its functionality. These facilities allow Terminal Tirtonadi not only to serve as a bus stop but also as a venue for activities such as sports, music concerts, social and cultural events, weddings, and exhibitions.

Facilities Available at Tirtonadi Terminal

1. Public Vehicle Arrival Area

A designated area within the terminal for public vehicles that have just arrived. Here, vehicles stop to drop off passengers who have just completed their journey.

2. Public Vehicle Waiting Area

A designated space within the terminal where public transport vehicles can take a break. This area allows vehicles to rest before continuing their journey to the departure lanes to pick up new passengers.

3. Terminal Office Building

Typically located in the main area of the terminal, this building often includes a control tower. The control tower is used to monitor and manage vehicle movement and passenger activity throughout the terminal.

4. Passenger and Escort Waiting Area

A designated area for passengers using public transport, as well as for those who are accompanying them. This space provides a comfortable place to wait.

5. Transit Lane

A specific lane reserved for public transport vehicles passing through the terminal. This lane ensures smooth transit of vehicles without disrupting other areas.

6. Ticket Sales Counter

A space within the terminal where passengers can purchase travel tickets. Managed by transport operators, this counter typically offers various payment options to facilitate ticket purchases.

7. Temporary Vehicle Rest Area

An area within the terminal for public transport vehicles to rest and perform light maintenance. This space helps ensure that vehicles are in good condition before resuming their journey.

8. Signage and Information Boards

Facilities that provide essential information to passengers, such as directions, fares, and departure schedules. This helps passengers plan their travel more effectively.

9. Parking Facilities
