Simeulue is a remote island of Indonesia, 160 kilometres (100 mi) off the west coast of Sumatra. Its main city is Sinabang. Simeulue was once a part of West Aceh Regency but was split off during 1999 and became a separate Simeulue district. This is the nearest airport located in Simeulue. Lasikin Airport is an airport in Sinabang, Simeulue Island, Aceh, Indonesia. The airport was badly damaged by the 2004 tsunami and destroyed by the 2005 Nias–Simeulue earthquake. The airport was reopened on 1 November 2007 following 46 billion rupiahs of spending by the Aceh-Nias recovery agency with control tower and enlarged runway facilitating larger turboprop aircraft such as Fokker 50 and ATR 72.
