About Huangshan

Huangshan is a mountain range located in southern Anhui province in eastern China. Tunxi was the name of Huangshan before it was changed in 1987. It was formed approximately 100 million years ago and gained its unique rock formations in the Quaternary Glaciation. This mountainous area features vegetation with trees that grow as high as 1,800 metres. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of China's major tourist destinations. The area is well known for its scenery, sunsets and peculiarly-shaped granite peaks. There are more than ten famous old shops are situated here, including Tongrende, opened about 120 years ago in the Qing Dynasty. This street features the delicious local snacks, souvenirs, antiques or knick-knacks in the shops and clothes. Besides that, there are two well-known museums in Tunxi Ancient Street. One is the Tunxi Museum which showcases furniture from the Ming and Qing dynasties on the first floor and an exhibition of calligraphy, paintings and china upstairs. A four-storey structure called Wancuilou is a first private museum of the ancient architectural style which displays famous ink stones and the four treasures of study, writing brushes, ink sticks, ink slabs and paper.
  3. Hongcun Ancient Village - Hongcun Ancient Village is awarded as UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known as a village in the Chinese paintings. This village is dated back to 1131, and the village is comprised of Hui-style buildings with the shape of a water buffalo and a network of canals that feed the Moon Pond and South Lake, representing the buffalos’ stomach, while the canals represent its intestines. This village highlights shop for souvenirs and country products and sightseeing as well as dining places. The famous Chinese film “Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon” was made here featuring the beautiful view of Wang Clan’s daily life.
