Salak South or Salak Selatan is a town of Kuala Lumpur at the southern tip of the city. The town was established in the year 1952. After 1957, immediately after Independence Day, there was a curfew (darurat) in the village to prevent the communist from entering the village. The township has seen significant development over the years. Initially centered on two rows of shop houses, the township has seen significant development, with sprawling housing, and the addition of a new satellite town, the New Salak South Village (Kampung Baru Salak Selatan). The main language spoken in this village is Mandarin. Salak South is also linked to a LRT station (Sri Petaling Line) and a commuter station (KTM Komuter). The Salak Selatan LRT Station is located next to old Salak South, which is about 400m from the Komuter station.

How to Get There

By Plane

From Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA 1&2) you can take taxi to Salak Selatan. The distance from airport to Salak Selatan is about 53 km and 40 minutes’ drive from the airport.

By Car

If you travel from North you may use North-South Expressway and if you travel from South you may use South-North Expressway to reach Salak Selatan.

By Train

You may take LRT and KTM train from Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station (KL Sentral) to reach Salak Selatan.

Royal Malaysian Air Force Museum

The Royal Malaysian Air Force Museum is located at Kuala Lumpur Airbase, the oldest base in Malaysia which was handed over to the RMAF in 1960. It is situated 6km from the city center on the site of the old Sungai Besi Airport which was jointly operated by the military and the Civil Aviation department. Visitor has to pass through the main gate related to the whole base area.
