Albuquerque International Sunport, known locally as the Sunport, is the main commercial airport for Albuquerque and much of New Mexico. It carries the IATA code ABQ and the ICAO code KABQ. The airport opened in 1939 as Albuquerque Municipal Airport and took the Sunport name in 1963.

• Rental cars: a free shuttle runs around the clock to the off-site Car Rental Center.

From the airport it is a short drive to Old Town Albuquerque, with its adobe buildings and plaza. The Sandia Peak Tramway climbs the mountains east of the city, and Santa Fe is within reach for a day trip by road or rail.
