Fuaʻamotu International Airport (TBU) is on Tongatapu, Tonga's main island. It is the arrival gateway for a stay on Tongatapu and a starting point for journeys to other islands. Landing at TBU is therefore different from reaching a resort in Vavaʻu or Haʻapai: the next stage may be a road transfer, a domestic flight or a separately arranged sea journey.

Tongatapu arrival or another island?

For accommodation on Tongatapu, arrange the journey from Fuaʻamotu to the actual address, including a stay in Nukuʻalofa. Tonga Tourism describes taxis, rental vehicles and local buses as options for getting around the island.

For a stay on another island, identify the onward service before selecting the international arrival. A booking described broadly as 'Tonga' does not establish that the accommodation is on the same island as TBU.

Fuaʻamotu Domestic Airport and the city office

Lulutai Airlines serves domestic island journeys from Tongatapu. Its published contact information distinguishes the office at Fuaʻamotu Domestic Airport from its headquarters in Nukuʻalofa.

For an onward flight, use the domestic departure location in the flight instructions when arranging a driver. The Nukuʻalofa headquarters is a city office; an office listing does not identify the precise check-in counter or establish an inter-terminal shuttle service.

Build a domestic connection into the arrival day

Tonga Tourism identifies domestic air connections between Tongatapu and islands including Vavaʻu, Haʻapai and ʻEua. The onward reservation determines whether the island journey can follow the international arrival on the same day.

Include the international arrival process, the domestic reporting step and the onward flight's deadline. A date with an international arrival does not by itself establish an available island flight. If the offered connection does not fit, a Tongatapu overnight stay creates a different, more workable itinerary.

Excess bags may travel on a later flight

Lulutai's baggage information says excess baggage is carried subject to available space and may need to follow on a later flight. This is a material difference for someone arriving with luggage allowed by a larger international carrier.

Compare the domestic booking's allowance with the bags actually being taken. Keep essential items needed immediately in permitted cabin baggage, and arrange bulky equipment through the airline's baggage process. Paying for excess weight does not create an unconditional promise that it travels on the same aircraft.

Road transport and inter-island transport do different jobs

A taxi or rental on Tongatapu serves a road journey on that island. It does not complete an outer-island transfer. Tonga Tourism also describes inter-island ferry travel, which is a separate journey with its own departure arrangements.

Choose the next stage by the island and actual service, rather than assuming that the most convenient airport car also reaches the resort. For an outer-island stay, put the domestic flight or sea connection into the plan before booking collection at TBU.

Use Tonga's date and currency for the ground plan

Tonga uses UTC+13 throughout the year, five hours ahead of Philippine time. Use the local arrival date and time when arranging airport pickup or a domestic connection, particularly on an itinerary crossing time zones.

The local currency is the Tongan paʻanga (TOP). Tonga Tourism says ATMs are concentrated mainly in towns such as Nukuʻalofa. Plan access to local money around the actual route rather than relying on an unverified airport cash machine or assuming every island stop has the same facilities.
