About the Airport in Bangkok

There are 2 major airports in Bangkok which is Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) and Don Mueang International Airport (DMK)

Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), commonly known as Bangkok International Airport. It serves as one of Asia's key hubs, with multiple international and domestic routes and is 25 kilometers away from the city center. Suvarnabhumi Airport is one of two international airports servicing Bangkok, also it is one of Southeast Asia's busiest international airports. Inside the Suvarnabhumi airport, there are 5 levels that are utilized by passengers. The departures are on the 4th Floor, while shops and restaurants are on the 3rd Floor. The 2nd Floor is where you'll find the arrivals area. Car parking and public transportation such as buses and taxi meters are also available on the 1st floor. Moreover, there is Suvarnabhumi Station of the Airport Rail Link and free 24 hours shuttle buses operate between terminals located on the B floor outside as well.

However, for international travellers, if you have a permit or your nationality allows you to enter Thailand without a visa or if you have obtained a Single-Entry Tourist Visa / Multiple Entry Tourist Visa in advance. You can simply go to immigration, present your travel documents to the officer, have your passport stamped, and you will be permitted to enter the country. Thailand Immigration Control Method for Foreigners is a concise description of the airport immigration control procedure in Thailand.

Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) is one of two international airports serving in Bangkok city and it is one of the oldest commercial airports in the world. There are three terminals at Don Mueang International Airport. International terminals 1 and 2 have 124 and 196 check-in counters, accordingly. Government and charter flights use International Terminal 1, while International Terminal 2 is idle. Facility 2 will be used as a low-cost carrier (LCC) terminal in the future. Domestic flight passengers use Terminal 3, which has 43 check-in counters. For the flight operations here, Thai Airways and two low-cost carriers, Nok Airways and One-Two-Go Airlines, now use Dom Mueang International airport for non-connecting internal flights. International airlines have declined to relocate to Don Mueang airport and will continue to fly out of Suvarnabhumi International airport.

Inside both airports, there are general services available such as free Internet access, shopping area, luggage trolleys, restaurants, pray room, ATM, smoking room, airport hotels, car rentals, currency exchange and more.

Transportations in Bangkok

Traveling in Bangkok is recommended to use public transportation such as the sky train (BTS) and the subway (MRT), which are the most convenient due to Bangkok's rush hour traffic. Besides public transportation offered in Bangkok, you have got choices of private transportation such taxi meter, car rental, tuk-tuk, and so on.

Travelling from the airport in Bangkok to the city

- Car Rental; For those of you who want to experience the crazy traffic in Bangkok, here you get a chance to rent a car and drive in the city. Car rental in Bangkok will give you convenience to go around the city and you can explore other close by cities such as Pattaya, HuaHin, etc. If you prefer to use a private transportation, car rental in Bangkok isn’t that bad idea. it is cheaper than paying multiple taxi fares! Credible rental companies to look for at the airport are Avis, Alamo, Europcar and Hertz.

- Airport Transfers; Besides renting a car and using public transportation, you can opt for a private transfer service of your choice; from standard sedans, to SUVS and even buses. It is approximately a 1 hour trip to get to the city from the airport (approximately time with tolls).

- Taxi Meter; Once you step foot out of any terminals, there would be lines of public taxis waiting for you. The fare depends on the route and will be displayed digitally at the taxi counter. To get to the city, it would cost you starting at 500 Thai baht, while renting a car would cost you starting around 1,500 Thai baht

- The Airport Rail Link; This way, I would say, is the fastest way that you can get off the airport. Fares for Airport Rail Link. The City Line metro trains have one-way ticket prices ranging from 15 to 45 Baht, depending on distance. (So far, Airport rail link is only available from Suvarnabhumi International Airport only)

Travelling around Bangkok

- Public Transportations; Logically, travelling around Bangkok by public transportation is the cheapest. Here are your choices: The Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), buses, tuk-tuk and taxi. Each of your choices has different checkpoints, excluding taxis. To avoid wasting your precious time, be sure to check the different check points before selecting your transportation.

- Car Rental; Even though Bangkok is one of the busiest cities in the world and it is one of many cities where you can find a super traffic jam, some people prefer to use a private transportation. Especially during this Covid-19 pandemic where hygiene comes first and when you travel with your family. I would say it’s better to rent a car so that you can visit places in Bangkok at your finest!
