Its IATA code is RMQ and its ICAO code is RCMQ. It was previously called Ching Chuan Kang Airport, and the name Qingquangang also appears in older sources.

Yes. Terminal 2 handles international services to destinations in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, mainland China and Vietnam, alongside domestic flights to Penghu and Kinmen.
Bus Route 302 connects the airport with Taichung Railway Station, taking roughly 45 minutes. A taxi is quicker if traffic is light.
Taichung International Airport is the main air gateway for central Taiwan. It sits in Shalu District on the western side of Taichung and shares its runway with Ching Chuan Kang Air Base, a military airfield. Civilian flights moved here in 2004, replacing the older Shuinan Airport that stood closer to downtown. The airport was once known as Ching Chuan Kang Airport, and you may still see the name Qingquangang on older maps and signs.
For travellers heading to Sun Moon Lake, the mountains of Nantou or the city itself, flying into RMQ avoids the longer trip from Taipei.
The terminal is roughly 20 km from central Taichung. Road access is simple, as the airport lies close to the Shalu exit of National Freeway No. 3. Depending on traffic, the drive into the city takes somewhere between 20 and 50 minutes.
There are two passenger terminals under one roof. Terminal 1 handles domestic flights, while the larger Terminal 2 serves international departures and arrivals.
Mandarin Airlines and Starlux Airlines both use Taichung as a focus city. Other carriers seen here include China Airlines, Tigerair Taiwan and Jin Air. Domestic flights link Taichung with the outlying islands of Penghu and Kinmen. International services reach parts of Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, mainland China and Vietnam. Routes and frequencies change, so check the current schedule before planning.
City and intercity buses leave from outside the terminal. Route 302 runs towards Taichung Railway Station, and other routes connect the airport with the city centre and the High Speed Rail station. Expect a journey of about 45 minutes.
Taxis wait outside arrivals and are the quickest door-to-door option. Car hire suits groups or anyone planning to drive on to Nantou or the coast.
Taichung is a good base for central Taiwan. In the city, Fengjia Night Market and the Rainbow Village are popular stops. Further out, Sun Moon Lake and the tea country of Nantou make easy day trips by road.
Check which terminal your flight uses before you set off, since domestic and international services are handled separately. Buses run less often late in the evening, so plan ahead if you land after dark. For international flights, arriving at least two hours early gives you time for check-in and immigration.
