FAQ about Brussels South Railway Station (ZYR)

Is ZYR an airport where I board a plane?

No. ZYR identifies Brussels-Midi/Zuid railway station in air–rail itineraries. Read the segment type and identify the airport used for the aircraft flight. The station does not have an aircraft departure terminal.

Are Brussels-Midi, Brussels-Zuid and Brussels South the same station?

Yes. These names refer to the same Brussels railway station. Brussels South Charleroi Airport is a different place. Give a driver the full station name and Fonsny address when that is your meeting point.

What does KLM Air&Rail use ZYR for?

KLM describes selected combined journeys with Eurostar between Brussels-Midi/Zuid and Schiphol. Confirm that the ticket you choose includes Air&Rail and follow its direction-specific check-in and baggage instructions.

Can I board the KLM rail segment with an online confirmation alone?

KLM says the online confirmation does not complete the Brussels-origin train boarding process for Air&Rail. Follow its station-terminal reporting instructions and obtain the required travel documents before boarding.

Where do I check my bags when travelling from Brussels by train?

For the KLM Air&Rail process described, carry your luggage on the train to Schiphol and hand checked bags over at the airport. Include time for airport bag drop and the onward flight’s reporting requirements.

Do checked bags travel automatically from Schiphol to Brussels-Midi?

No. KLM explains that bags are routed to Amsterdam for collection before continuing by train. Complete the arrival process, then take the luggage with you on the rail segment.

Does Brussels South station mean Charleroi Airport?

No. The station and Brussels South Charleroi Airport are separate locations. Charleroi uses CRL, while Brussels Airport at Zaventem uses BRU. Select the ground transfer for the code on your flight.

Will every Brussels booking include the train and airport transfer?

No. Read what the selected offer includes, its segment types and ticket conditions. A flight-only booking or independently bought rail ticket does not establish the benefits and processes of a combined Air&Rail product.

Brussels-Midi/Zuid Railway Station (ZYR): Air–Rail Connections

Brussels-Midi/Zuid (ZYR), also called Brussels South, is a railway station in Brussels, Belgium. It is not an airport with aircraft departures. ZYR can appear in an air–rail itinerary where a train forms part of the journey. Read the transport type for every segment before choosing a Brussels booking: the station, Brussels Airport and Brussels South Charleroi Airport are different locations.

Understand ZYR before comparing a Brussels itinerary

Midi and Zuid are the French and Dutch names used for the same station. Brussels South in this context describes the station, not the airport at Charleroi. If a booking includes ZYR, identify the rail segment and the airport used for the aircraft flight.

SNCB lists the station address as Avenue Fonsny/Fonsnylaan 47 in Saint-Gilles/Sint-Gillis. Give a driver the full station name and address when the journey begins there. An airport pickup arranged at Brussels Airport cannot be assumed to collect from the railway station.

KLM Air&Rail connects Brussels-Midi with Schiphol

KLM describes combined itineraries using Eurostar between Brussels-Midi/Zuid and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol on selected journeys. A train segment replaces part of the airport-to-airport trip. Confirm that your selected ticket actually includes this service and read the process for the direction you are travelling.

Do not treat an independently bought train ticket as having the same conditions as a combined air–rail booking. Check the segment order, journey dates and disruption arrangements. A Philippines-origin search may show different combinations, so inspect the actual offer rather than assuming every Brussels ticket includes rail.

For travel to Schiphol, use the station check-in process

KLM instructs Brussels-origin Air&Rail passengers to use its Air&Rail terminal at the station on the travel day. An online check-in confirmation alone does not complete the train boarding process for this product. Follow the carrier’s reporting instructions and obtain the required travel documents before heading to the platform.

Passengers carry their luggage on the train, then hand checked baggage over at Schiphol under the airline’s airport process. Allow for the station procedure, rail journey and airport bag drop. A scheduled train arrival is not the same as reaching the aircraft boarding gate.

For travel from Schiphol, collect bags before the train

In the reverse direction, KLM explains that checked bags are routed to Amsterdam. Collect them at Schiphol and complete the applicable arrival process before continuing by train. The bags do not automatically travel to a baggage carousel at Brussels-Midi.

Keep the rail boarding details accessible with the flight documents and use the carriage and seat information provided for the train. If travelling with several bags or needing assistance, arrange support for both the airport arrival and station stage rather than assuming one service covers the whole journey.

Brussels Airport and Charleroi need different transfers

Brussels Airport at Zaventem uses BRU. SNCB describes a railway station beneath its airport halls, reached through a separate rail journey from the city. Check the correct airport ticket and whether the applicable airport supplement is included in the fare you select.

Brussels South Charleroi Airport uses CRL. Eurostar’s station guide describes separate coach or rail-and-bus options between Brussels-Midi and Charleroi Airport. Choose transport for the exact flight airport; a ticket for one airport does not establish a transfer to the other.

Station facilities and departure procedures

SNCB lists luggage lockers, Wi-Fi, ticket facilities and local transport connections at Brussels-Midi/Zuid. Check the relevant service hours for your arrival: a station being open does not mean every counter, assistance point or shop operates at the same time.

Different international trains can use different boarding procedures. Eurostar identifies a dedicated Channel Terminal for London services. Follow the instructions for the actual route; do not apply the London departure process automatically to an Amsterdam Air&Rail train.

Compare the full flight-and-train journey

When a Brussels result on Traveloka includes a rail segment, compare the total duration, aircraft airport, train time, baggage process and ticket conditions. Establish which transport is included before payment. For a flight-only booking, arrange the station or airport transfer separately.

Keep the station name, rail instructions and flight airport together. Plan arrival at the correct check-in point rather than using ZYR as an airport address. The best-value option is one whose entire sequence works for your dates, luggage and onward destination.
