It was a delightful stay! The rooms were spotless, with a lovely heritage vibe. The bathrooms were spacious and functional – a real highlight! Plus, having an iron and board was super handy. Its location near Komtar made exploring easy, with lots of great restaurants nearby. And being close to Penang's street art scene was a bonus! Affordable and fantastic – highly recommend!

Strategic, near the Komtar bus terminal, just walk. From Komtar to ride CAT (free bus) to get around, you can take a bus to the airport (401e). Next to the hotel there is a halal stall for Thai cuisine, a mainstay if Malem is just walking around and looking for food. The hotel provides hot and cold water dispensers in the lobby, want to be able to make money easily, fill up the water for the provision of sightseeing can. Already checkout, even allow the suitcase!

More about hotels in Georgetown

Hotels in Georgetown Penang — Your Complete Guide

Georgetown is the cultural heart of Penang and one of the most captivating heritage districts in Southeast Asia. Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, Georgetown's compact heritage core is a living museum of pre-war shophouses, Chinese clan houses, Indian temples, Malay mosques, and grand colonial buildings — all layered together in a walkable grid of narrow streets and atmospheric alleyways. In recent years, Georgetown has become internationally famous for its street art scene, sparked by Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic's murals including the iconic "Children on Bicycle" on Armenian Street. But Georgetown's greatest claim to fame remains its extraordinary street food, with hawker legends serving char koay teow, assam laksa, Hokkien mee, and curry mee from decades-old family stalls. Traveloka lists hotels in Georgetown starting from RM 80/night, spanning restored heritage shophouse guesthouses, contemporary boutique hotels, and international-brand luxury properties.

Best Streets to Stay in Georgetown

Georgetown's heritage core is remarkably compact — most major attractions are within a 1–2 km radius, making it one of the most walkable destinations in Malaysia.

Love Lane and Lebuh Chulia

Love Lane is Georgetown's original backpacker strip and remains one of the most popular areas for budget and mid-range travellers. The narrow lane and the adjacent Lebuh Chulia are lined with restored shophouse guesthouses, boutique hotels, cafes, and bars. From here, you are within a 5-minute walk of the main street art murals, Khoo Kongsi, and multiple hawker food centres.

Budget: RM 80–150/night  |  Mid-range: RM 170–300/night  |  Luxury: RM 400–800/night

Jalan Penang and Beach Street (Lebuh Pantai)

The commercial core of Georgetown runs along Jalan Penang and Lebuh Pantai. This area features colonial-era buildings alongside boutique hotels and upscale guesthouses. A 5-minute walk from the Clan Jetties, Chowrasta Market, and Fort Cornwallis.

Budget: RM 100–170/night  |  Mid-range: RM 200–380/night  |  Luxury: RM 450–900/night

Armenian Street (Lebuh Armenian)

The epicentre of Georgetown's street art scene. The lane itself is narrow and atmospheric, with heritage shophouses converted into galleries, boutique guesthouses, and artisan cafes. Khoo Kongsi, Georgetown's most spectacular Chinese clan house, is located at the end of this street.

Budget: RM 90–160/night  |  Mid-range: RM 180–320/night  |  Luxury: RM 400–800/night

Hotel rates peak during Chinese New Year when Georgetown comes alive with celebrations. The best value months are March to May and September to October.

Getting to Georgetown

From Penang International Airport (PEN): Approximately 30–40 minutes by car. Grab rides cost RM 25–40.

From Butterworth (mainland): The Penang Ferry connects Butterworth to Georgetown in approximately 15 minutes.

Getting around Georgetown: The heritage core is best explored on foot. For longer distances, use Grab (RM 5–15) or rent a bicycle. Rapid Penang Bus 101 connects Georgetown to Batu Ferringhi.

Top Attractions Near Georgetown Hotels

Street Art Murals: Georgetown's world-famous collection of murals and iron caricatures. Most iconic: "Children on Bicycle" (Armenian Street), "Boy on Motorbike" (Ah Quee Street). Free self-guided walking maps available at most hotels.

Khoo Kongsi: The most elaborate Chinese clan house in Malaysia, featuring ornate carvings and ceramic sculptures.

Clan Jetties: Six wooden villages built on stilts over the water at Weld Quay. Chew Jetty is the most visited.

Kek Lok Si Temple: The largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia, approximately 20 minutes from Georgetown in Air Itam.

Penang Hill (Bukit Bendera): A colonial-era hill station at 833 metres, accessible by funicular railway. Panoramic views of Georgetown and the Penang Bridge.

Tips for Booking Georgetown Hotels on Traveloka

Book heritage boutique hotels early. Georgetown's best heritage properties have limited room inventory — many have fewer than 20 rooms.

Consider location over star rating. A well-located 3-star heritage boutique can offer a better experience than a generic 4-star hotel outside the heritage zone.

Check for street-facing vs courtyard rooms. Street-facing rooms may be noisier but more atmospheric, while courtyard rooms are quieter.

Use the Free Cancellation filter. Useful for Georgetown trips where you may want to adjust dates based on weather or event schedules.
