Changchun Longjia International Airport (CGQ) is the main air gateway to Jilin Province in northeast China. It serves the provincial capital, Changchun, and also the nearby city of Jilin, which makes it a practical arrival point for the whole central part of the province. The airport opened in 2005, taking over passenger traffic from the older Dafangshen airfield closer to town.
Travellers come here for business in Changchun's car and rail industries, for winter trips to the ski areas of Jilin, and for onward journeys across the northeast.
The airport lies in Longjia, in Changchun's Jiutai District, northeast of the city centre. Its position between Changchun and Jilin City means both cities can be reached without doubling back. Allow extra time when roads are icy, as winters here are long and cold.
Passenger services are split between two terminals, T1 and T2. The site has a single long runway able to handle wide-body aircraft. Before you travel, check which terminal your airline uses, as the terminals are separate buildings linked by walkways.
China Southern Airlines runs a regional base at Longjia, so it has a strong presence on domestic routes. Air China and a range of other Chinese carriers also serve the airport, alongside some international services to other parts of Asia. Timetables change by season, so search your dates to see which airlines are flying.
The quickest link for many travellers is the train. Longjia railway station, on the Changchun–Jilin intercity line, sits under the terminal complex, so you can go from arrivals to a high-speed train without leaving the airport. Trains run towards Changchun station in one direction and Jilin station in the other.
Airport coaches are the other main option. They connect the airport with central Changchun, including stops at Renmin Square, and with Jiangcheng Square in Jilin City. Taxis wait outside arrivals for door-to-door trips.
Changchun is known for the Imperial Palace of the Manchu State, a museum complex tied to the last emperor, Puyi. Jingyuetan National Forest Park on the edge of the city is popular for walking in summer and cross-country skiing in winter. From Jilin City, winter visitors head out to see the frost-covered trees along the Songhua River.
