Travellers heading to the temples of Angkor now land at Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport (SAI). The airport opened on 16 October 2023 and replaced the old Siem Reap International Airport, whose code REP is no longer used for passenger flights. The new site was built partly to move air traffic further away from the ancient temple complex.
How far the airport is from Siem Reap
This is the biggest change for returning visitors. The airport is in Soutr Nikom District, east of the city, about 40 to 50 km from central Siem Reap. Allow roughly an hour or more by road, depending on traffic and where you are staying.

A single modern terminal handles both domestic and international flights. It has 15 jet bridges, and the long runway can take large wide-body aircraft. Inside, travellers find currency exchange, car rental desks, restaurants, duty-free shops and airport lounges. The design draws on Khmer architecture, a nod to the Angkor heritage nearby.
