About Tashkent International Airport

Tashkent International Airport, officially Islam Karimov Tashkent International Airport, is the main air gateway to Uzbekistan. Its code is TAS. Most visitors to the country arrive here before heading on to Samarkand, Bukhara or Khiva.

The airport is the home base of Uzbekistan Airways, the national carrier, and handles both international and domestic traffic on two runways.

Location and Distance to Central Tashkent

The airport lies on the southern side of Tashkent, close to the city itself. In normal traffic the drive to the centre usually takes around 20 to 30 minutes, which makes it one of the more convenient capital-city airports in the region.

Terminals at Tashkent Airport

Passenger flights use two separate buildings. Terminal 2 handles international flights, while Terminal 3 handles domestic services. The runway runs between them, so you cannot walk from one to the other. Anyone connecting between an international and a domestic flight should allow time to exit and travel across by road.

Both terminals have check-in halls, currency exchange, cafes and shops. The international terminal also offers duty-free shopping after passport control.

• Taxi apps: Yandex Go and local apps are widely used and let you see the fare before you ride.
• City buses: Several routes stop near the airport and link it with metro stations in the city.
• Metro: There is no station inside the terminals, but the metro network is within reach by a short ride and is an easy way to cross town.

Things to Do in Tashkent

Tashkent mixes Soviet-era boulevards with older neighbourhoods. The Hazrati Imam complex holds some of the city's oldest religious sites, and Chorsu Bazaar is a lively place to try local bread, dried fruit and spices. The metro stations, with their tiled and chandeliered halls, are worth a ride on their own.

Travel Tips for Tashkent Airport

Double-check which terminal your flight leaves from, since the two are on opposite sides of the airfield. Queues at passport control can be long at peak times, so arrive early for international departures. Carrying some Uzbek som in cash helps for small purchases after landing.
