This campus is a popular historic landmark of the city. More than being the oldest American University in Asia and a Center of Excellence in the country, this 62-hectare prime land at the city center showcases an interesting mix of colonial American and modern Filipino architecture. A must-see spot in Dumaguete, the charm of Rizal Boulevard never gets old. Named after Dr. Jose Rizal, Philippine National Hero, who once strolled here and was captivated by the stunning view at the boulevard. More commonly known as the Dumaguete Belfry, this towering historical marker has stood the test of time. Built in 1811, the oldest bell tower in the province served as a watchtower against pirate attacks. It’s also a devotional area, right next to St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral, with a grotto for Our Lady of Perpetual Help near its base where Catholics pray and light a candle.
This is the oldest stone church in Negros but with a modern-looking facade. It is also referred as the Dumaguete Cathedral or simply as “Cathedral’ to the locals, devotees flocked the church with or without mass. Dumagueteños have their faith that their patroness St. Catherine of Alexandria will bring miracles to the believers.
One of the best dive spots in the world, Apo Island is located in the municipality of Dauin and a popular side trip when you go to Dumaguete. Aside from diving, tourists can go snorkeling along with the Green Turtles and explore the diverse marine life it has to offer.
