About Kitakyushu

Kitakyushu is a city situated in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. Kitakyushu has an approximate population of 940,978 as per 1 June 2019, making it the second-biggest city in both Fukuoka State and the island of Kyushu after the city of Fukuoka. Kitakyushu is one of Japan's 20 named cities, one of three on Kyushu, and is split into seven wards. Kitakyushu was formed in 1963 from a merger of municipalities centred on the historic city of Kokura, and its name exactly means "North Kyushu City" in Japanese. Kitakyushu is located at the northernmost point of Kyushu on the Kanmon Straits, dividing the island from Honshu, across from the city of Shimonoseki. Kitakyushu and Shimonoseki are linked by various transport links including the Kanmon Bridge and the Kanmon Tunnel.

Kitakyushu Airport sometimes called Kokuraminami Airport, is an airport in Kokuraminami-ku, Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Japan. It is built on a manmade island in the western Seto Inland Sea, 3.2 km (2 mi) away from the main body of the city. It started on 16 March 2006, as New Kitakyushu Airport but was renamed in 2008. It is assigned a second-class airport, and it has several international charter flights. It is the fourth airport in Japan to begin functioning 24 hours a day, after Kansai International Airport (Osaka), New Chitose Airport (Sapporo), and Chūbu Centrair International Airport (Nagoya). Kanmon Straits - The Kanmon Straits or the Straits of Shimonoseki is the expanse of water separating Honshu and Kyushu, two of Japan's four major islands. On the Honshu side of the strait is Shimonoseki and on the Kyushu side is Kitakyushu, whose previous city and present ward, Moji, gave the channel its "mon". The straits silt up at the rate of about 15.2 centimetres per annum, and dredging has made it potential to build the New Kitakyushu Airport at low cost.
