The Côn Đảo Islands are an archipelago of Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu Region, in the Southeast region of Vietnam, and a region of this province. Situated about 185.1 km (115 mi) from Vũng Tàu and 230.1 km (143 mi) from Saigon, the group includes 16 hilly islands and islets. The total land area reaches 75.16 km2 (29.02 sq mi) and the local population is about 5,002. The islands are comprised of magmatic rocks of different ages. Hon Bong Lang, Hon Bay Canh, Hon Cau, composed of Cretaceous micro granite rocks. The Northern part of Con Dao Island comprised of quartz diorite and granite - granodiorite of late Mesozoic- early Xenozoic age and is in part protected by Quaternary marine sediments.
