The Côn Đảo Islands are an archipelago of Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu Region, in the Southeast region of Vietnam, and a region of this province. Situated about 185.1 km (115 mi) from Vũng Tàu and 230.1 km (143 mi) from Saigon, the group includes 16 hilly islands and islets. The total land area reaches 75.16 km2 (29.02 sq mi) and the local population is about 5,002. The islands are comprised of magmatic rocks of different ages. Hon Bong Lang, Hon Bay Canh, Hon Cau, composed of Cretaceous micro granite rocks. The Northern part of Con Dao Island comprised of quartz diorite and granite - granodiorite of late Mesozoic- early Xenozoic age and is in part protected by Quaternary marine sediments.
Côn Đảo Airport or Côn Sơn Airport is the remote airport located on Côn Sơn Island, the biggest island of Côn Đảo archipelago off the coast of Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu Region, Vietnam. The airport consists of a single runway that capable to depart and land by STOL (Short Take-Off Landing) aircraft such as ATR 72. The suitable time to come to Con Dao is from November until early of May. From July and August are the rainiest months but there is no time when it is mainly not suggested to visit Con Dao. Côn Đảo National Park - Côn Đảo National Park is a natural preserve area situated on Côn Đảo Island, in Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu Region in coastal southeastern Vietnam. The park contains a part of the island and the surrounding sea. A different ecosystem describes the national park. Many species of corals and especially the dolphins, sea turtles, and endangered dugongs are found here. In 2006, a mission of UNESCO Vietnam agents surveyed the area and concluded that the park is qualified to be a natural-cultural mixture World Heritage.
