About Luanda

Luanda, previously called as São Paulo da Assunção de Loanda, is the capital and biggest city in Angola, it is Angola's primary port, and it's main cultural, industrial, and urban centre. Situated on Angola's northern coast with the Atlantic Ocean, Luanda is both Angola's main seaport and its organizational centre. Luanda also the capital city of Luanda Province. Luanda and its city area is the most crowded Portuguese-speaking capital city in the world, with over 8,000,000 inhabitants in 2019 (a third of Angola's peoples). Among the eldest colonial cities of Africa, it was created in early January 1576 by Portuguese explorer named Paulo Dias de Novais, under the name of São Paulo da Assunção de Loanda. The city assisted as the hub of the slave trade to Brazil before its ban.
