The Tulungagung Train is one of the railway transportation facilities serving routes to and from Tulungagung, a city rich in history and culture in Indonesia. As an integral part of the public transportation system, this train connects Tulungagung with other cities.
With a history rooted in Staatsspoorwegen (SS), the state railway company initiated the construction of its first railway network in Indonesia in 1875, particularly in the eastern region.
The initial route from Surabaya to Pasuruan was completed on May 16, 1878, and it was extended to Malang in 1879. This railway network became a mainline connecting major cities for economic and military purposes.
As a state-owned company, SS also took responsibility for opening up isolated areas for the community's welfare. In 1905, SS began constructing tram lines as branches from the mainline to inland areas. Trams had distinct characteristics, including smaller size, lower speed, smaller carrying capacity, and shorter distances.
The construction of tram lines, like the Tulungagung – Trenggalek - Tugu route, was overseen by local government authorities, unlike railway lines regulated by the central government.
The Tulungagung Train offers various classes to meet passengers' needs and preferences. The three main classes available are:
The Executive Class on the Tulungagung Train offers the most luxurious travel experience. Wider seats, exclusive space arrangements, and enhanced services create an elegant and comfortable atmosphere. Passengers in this class often enjoy additional facilities such as entertainment during the journey, high-quality meals, and the option of reclining seats for optimal comfort.
Business Class on the Tulungagung Train provides a balance between comfort and cost. Although not as exclusive as the executive class, business-class passengers still enjoy comfortable seats with adequate space. Facilities like air conditioning and entertainment may also be available, creating a pleasant travel experience without the higher cost of the executive class.
Economy Class is an affordable option for passengers prioritizing economic value in their travels. While seats may be simpler and more compact, economy-class passengers still experience safe and efficient travel. Common facilities like toilets and air conditioning are provided, ensuring comfort during the journey.
In each class, seats are arranged to provide maximum comfort and access to passengers. Executive and business classes may have more separated seat formations and more space for each passenger. In the economy class, seats may be more crowded with limited legroom. However, these arrangements can vary depending on the type of train and model used.
