The airport sits on a 4.17 square kilometres site in Barangay Moog, Laguindingan and is 46 kilometres from Cagayan de Oro and 57 kilometres from Iligan. This airport started its operation on June 15, 2013, and replaced Lumbia Airport in Barangay Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro. As of 2019, Laguindingan was the sixth-busiest airport in the country with an estimate of two million passengers passing through it.

Besides that, it is also famous among tourists and locals because of the many thrilling rides and slides such as the Cyclone and Abyss Tornado Ride. It opens from 9 am to 5 pm. The prices for adults from Monday to Thursday is 800 pesos and 1000 pesos on the weekends. Besides, the entrance fee for kids below 4 feet is 500 peso on weekdays and 600 pesos on the weekends. For kids below 3 feet, the entrance is free.
