PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero), or more commonly known as Telkom, is a state-owned company (BUMN) that specializes in providing Information and communication technology services, including telecommunication networks across Indonesia.

The origin of Telkom can be traced back to 1961, when the government of Indonesia established the State Post and Telecommunications Company (PN Postel). It was later in 1965 that the Government Regulation No. 30 of 1965 resulted in the separation of the postal telecommunication company into two separate entities. They became PN Pos and Giro and PN Telekomunikasi. As of 2016, PT. Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. recognizes the issuance date of Government Regulation No. 30 of 1965 as its founding date.

As a state enterprise, Telkom is a corporate group running under the name of Telkom Group. The Telkom Group currently manages 6 different companies that target four groups of consumers: corporate, housing, individuals and other segments.

These six portfolios consist of various mobile products within the Telkomsel brand. There is a variety of Halo Card products (postpaid) SimPATI, Kartu As, and Loop (prepaid), fixed services (through IndiHome), wholesale and international, network infrastructure, digital enterprises and digital consumers.

Currently, PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. operates with full national coverage. Telkom is the only state-owned telecommunications company and operates the largest telecommunication and network services in the country. Its headquarteris located on the 32nd floor of Telkom Landmark Tower, Jalan Jenderal Gatot Subroto Kav. 52, South Jakarta.

Telkom Products

Telkom currently provides telecommunication products for home, with IndiHome. There are three main products available in a single IndoHome package. They are as follows.

Home Phone

As the only state-owned telecommunication enterprise, Telkom Indonesia is the premier provider of home telephone services in the country. Telkom’s home telephone service is facilitated by the Plasa Telkom subsidiary, and has been included in IndiHome’s package of services.

Telkom Indonesia’s telephone service is advantageous, because it is stable, crystal clear and low-cost. There is currently a home phone package, offered by Telkom through IndiHome, which allows for 1,000 minutes worth of free phone calls. This offer is valid for both local or long distance calls, and is the equivalent of 17 hours of phone call.

Customers can have their home telephone installed by contacting Telkom, either through the contact service centre at 147, or visiting the nearest Telkom Plaza. For simplicity and the complete experience, Telkom recommends that their customers also register through IndiHome to receive the complete package. This includes internet and interactive TV.

Home phone usage naturally incurs a cost, which must be paid monthly by the user. The bill is calculated as per usage, and incorporates the following: subscription fee, local calls – DLD, international calls and cellular calls. The tariff applicable to home phone usage is dependent on two factors: distance to receiver and the time of call. The current range of home phone rates stands at IDR225,000 – 288,000 per credit for local calls, and IDR75 – 2,415 per minute for long distance calls.

Fiber-Optic Internet

Through IndiHome, Telkom offers fiber-optic internet services. This state-of-the-art technology allows the company to provide stable, high-speed internet to the public.

Fiber-optic network allows for connection speed up to 100Mbps, substantially faster than its predecessor, copper wires. Fiber-optic network also has the additional advantage of being more durable under intense weather conditions. The result is a reduced disruption during bad weather for IndiHome customers.

Telkom Indonesia offers dual or triple play internet packages. This allows its customers to have internet as well TV and/or a home phone. The package price is dependent on the chosen internet speed. Prices range from IDR285,000 – 1,750,000 per month.

Packages are also available based on just internet speeds. Fiber optic packages are available for in package sizes between 10 – 40Mbps. The monthly fees for these are between IDR250,000 – 610,000, depending on the size of the package chosen. Telkom Indonesia also imposes a one-off administrative payment of IDR125,000 for all new customers, during the first month of subscription.

UseeTV

For a complete home entertainment experience, Telkom has introduced an interactive TV product named UseeTV. Telkom claims this product is the first interactive TV service in the country. The quality of this package can be seen not only in the crisp viewing image, but also in the number of features not typically seen in ordinary TV packages.

Useful features that are noteworthy include the pause and rewind features; Video on Demand; and Video Recording. These features allow customers to fully customize their viewing experience, making it possible to watch whatever they want, whenever they want to. Customers can playback their favorite programs up to 7 days after recording. It also includes complimentary features such as music and karaoke, which ensures that customers will be thoroughly entertained without ever having to leave the house.

For a range of viewing choices, UseeTv offers 131 main channels; 31 of which are available in HD quality. They include a range of popular local and national options, as well as dozens of popular foreign channels. These channels cover things such as entertainment, news, religion, movies, music, knowledge, lifestyle, series, sports and children-only channels.

The newest innovation in the UseeTv brand is the Hybrid Box. The IndiHome Hybrid Box is a set-top-box (STB) which functions to provide all-in-one services. This powerful device allows customers to access a variety of UseeTv programming, as well as allowing you to enjoy video streaming and internet playback directly on your TV screen.

Tips for Saving Money on Your Home Phone Bill

The home phone is still present as one of the public’s communication options; in addition to mobile phones, and smartphones. Typically, home phone users will use this method to talk for longer duration than their more mobile counterparts. To ensure this doesn’t result in rising phone bill, read and apply the following tips:

  1. Determine and set a monthly phone budget. This allows you to monitor your usage of the phone effectively, and keep bills under control.
  2. Use the phone when necessary. Ask yourself if the use of the home phone is necessary. If the message you wish to convey is short, and could be easily understood in the written form, consider if it would be simpler, and cheaper, to use an SMS or IM. If the message is longer, or more important then consider the phone.
  3. Use a timer to keep your minutes down. Using a phone timer, or the timer setting on your gadgets to manage your call time. Once your deadline is reached, then simply end the conversation.
  4. Be mindful of the individual charges on your bill to determine where the biggest expense is. Identify to where the most money is being spent, and change your habits accordingly.
  5. If there are many users of the phone in your household, consider applying a lock to it. This means that anyone wishing to use it must acquire your permission. This gives you better control of how much time is being used.
  6. Consider taking a package from IndiHome. These bundles give you internet, interactive TV, and home phone usage. Additionally, you can receive up to 1,000 minutes a month, for free, to local and long distance numbers. This would save you up to 17 hours of home phone charges.
  7. If you ever need to phone a mobile number, then try to use a mobile provider which is the same as the receiver. Higher rates to mobile phones mean that calls to them are typically one of the biggest reasons for higher amount of home phone bills.
