Darwin International Airport is located in Darwin, on the edge of the Northern Territory. It is located 8 km from Darwin city centre on the outskirts of Marrara. It also shares ground with Australia's Darwin-based Air Force. Darwin International Airport has three terminals, which are the international terminal, domestic terminal and cargo terminal. Both passenger terminals have various shops and a cafeteria. In 2011, Darwin International Airport had made 26,036 flights and managed 1,743,734 passengers. A new terminal was officially opened at Darwin International Airport on May 9, 2015. With the opening of the new terminal worth AUD 85 million, it increases the terminal area from 16,000 to 27,000 square meters. It is also expected to double the capacity of the airport during the peak season. It has a wider area of departure, a new international gateway, an extra security check counters and many more. This airport is the hub for Airnorth and also the city of focus for Qantas.
