Oesman Sadik Airport (LAH)
Oesman Sadik Airport is the main airport operating in Labuha. It is 4 km away from Labuha. The trip via car or any public land transportation will take around 10 minutes from the airport to the main city. The traveling time will only differ depending on the traffic condition at the time of the travel. Some of the airport facilities you can find at the Oesman Sadik Airport include check-in facilities, free wi-fi, duty-free outlets, restaurants, ATMs, baggage storage, and a lost & found center.
Tourist Office - The tourist office is located at South Halmahera Regency, which covers the Bacan, Obi, Kayoa Islands, and Makian as well as the southern peninsula of Halmahera. It is hidden in a secluded location above the city of Labuha. It houses a small collection of artifacts for which they plan to build a museum. It will be a great loss to miss a visit to the Tourist Office.
The Sultan’s Residence - The Sultan’s Residence is a new, large palace building for Bacan’s Sultan. Its original palace which stands in the center of the island’s capital, Labuha was destroyed during World War II. Down the street behind the residence, located the Sultan’s Mosque. The original mosque has been completely rebuilt by altering much of the original design. It will be a great loss to miss a visit to The Sultan’s Residence.
Barnewald Fort - Barnewald Fort, a small, crumbling fort originally built by the Portuguese, is probably the most interesting sight in Labuha. Although mostly unrestored, the fort is still in good enough condition to climb upstairs once inside. There is no entrance fee and is open to all although fenced around. It will be a great loss to miss a visit to Barnewald Fort.
Less is Best when Traveling
We are not going minimalist here, but minimalism can help you get more things done. To determine how many you should bring with you, you should always go back to the question of where and what. Where are you going? What will you be doing? This will bring you back to consider if you do a lot of walking, then it is best to bring something you are comfortable with. The key example is to wear your everyday clothes because you know what you are comfortable with to go about your day. Don’t overthink too much in a “just in case” situation because that is the number one trap to bring more with you and in the end, it will just make your bag heavier with things you can either reuse or get easier there.
Always Stay In Touch
Despite the beauty of the world, it is not necessarily a safe one. Even if you are doing a solo trip, always keep in touch with your family and/or friends. Let them have a copy of your itinerary so that they have an idea of where you are. Keep them close in contact each day and let them know when you are changing locations during your trip.
Bring Extra ATM & Credit Cards During Your Travel
There is a saying that doesn’t keep all your money with you when you travel, but that doesn’t mean you should not bring extra money at all. Keep extra credit and atm cards with you when you travel. This will help greatly when things go south and believe me, it probably will. Keeping cards instead of cash with your person is better and safer.
