Butuan or officially, the City of Butuan is a first-class highly urbanized city and regional center of the Caraga Region. Up to the year 2015, the city had an estimated population of 337, 063 people. From the year 1001 to 1756, Butuan was the capital of the Rajahnate of Butuan. Butuan was known for its gold and boat manufacturing and was said to have traded as far as Champa, Ming, Srivajata, Majapahit and the Bengali coasts.
If you plan to visit Butuan, December to January would be the best months as this is when you will have a warmer temperature but with less rainfall. January also offers the lowest temperature in Butuan, making traveling a lot more pleasant.
Legazpi Airport (LGP) - The Legazpi Airport, located 15km from town is the main airport in the Bicol region. The airport serves the surrounding areas of Legazpi, the capital city of Albay. To get to Legazpi city from the airport, you may head out of the airport gate and get a tricycle from there. Tricycle usually cost around P50 one way. One trip will take approximately 15 minutes, depending on traffic. If you walk to the road outside, you may take jeepneys to the Albay district or Daraga city. Even though Legazpi airport is a rather small airport which consists of a single-story building, it is equipped with a waiting area and a tour desk.
Bancasi Airport (BXU) - The Bancasi Airport serves the general area of the city of Butuan which is located in the province of Agusan del Norte. The airport is the largest airport in Caraga and the only airport in the region. To get from the airport to town, you can take a jeepney which is cheaper than taking a tricycle. The airport is a rather small airport but well equipped with shops, restaurants and souvenir stalls.
Both Legazpi experiences a tropical climate while Butuan experiences a tropical rainforest climate. The average temperature between the two cities also differs quite a lot with Legazpi having an average temperature of only 27.1 degrees Celsius but Butuan with an average temperature of 32.2 degrees Celsius. Even though both cities experience rainfall throughout the year, Legazpi has a much higher annual average of 3104 mm while Butuan only experiences 2057 mm of rainfall annually.
