Manahan Train is an executive class service owned by PT Kereta Api Indonesia which operates between Gambir-Solo Balapan route through the center lane of Java. ‘Manahan’ was named after a local figure, Ki Ageng Pamanahan, who was an important person and an old brother of Sultan Adiwijaya.
Recently, ‘Manahan’ also refers to a village in Banjarsari, Surakarta, Central Java, where Solo Station Balapan is located.
Manahan Train started to operate on 1st June 2023 with facultative status, taking 7 hours and 8 minutes from Solo Balapan-Gambir.
As a successor service for the Jakarta to Solo route, Manahan Train has replaced Argo Lawu Fakultatif and Argo Dwipangga Fakultatif Train since 2016 as an extra train.
The train sets consist of two types of base material. They are stainless steel and mild steel. During the journey, this train will halt at several station stops. They are Klaten Station, Kutoarjo Station, Kebumen Station, Kroya Station, Purwokerto Station, Yogyakarta Station, Cirebon Station, Cikarang Station, Jatinegara Station, and Gambir Station for the last.
Covering 571.259 kilometers in 8 hours and 16 minutes, the Manahan Train has become a trusted alternative train for people seeking a long-distance trip option.
Manahan Train only has one class, the executive class. This class has 50 seats with a 2-2 arrangement. As the most executive class, Manahan executive class provides some facilities, such as an air conditioner (AC), television, foldable table for putting food, toilet, and electrical outlet.

PT KAI officially launched the Manahan Train at Solo Balapan Station on 1st July 2023. The inauguration ceremony of Manahan Train was led by the Director of Infrastructure Management of KAI, Heru Kuswanto, with the vice mayor of Solo, Teguh Prakoso. Besides, this event was attended by Forkopimda (Regional Leadership Coordination Forum), BI and Banking Chief Manager, and regional and territorial officials in Solo City.
As an executive class, Manahan Train has eight cars with 400 seats capacity in total. During June 2023, Manahan Train operations will fluctuate as the dynamic of market share changes.
The train sets consist of two base materials: stainless steel and mild steel. The Manahan Train from Solo Balapan uses mild steel, and it has 1 head-end power car, 4 executive cars, 1 buffet car, and 4 executive cars. Its train depot is at Solo Balapan (SLO). Meanwhile, the Manahan Train from Gambir uses stainless steel with the same formation, but the train depot is in Jakarta Kota (JAKK).
PT KAI provides flagship facilities for the Manahan Train, including reading light, toilet, light fire extinguisher, emergency brake, air conditioner, silencer, observation facilities, and entertainment. All of them are designed to guarantee convenience and secure journeys for the passengers.
Manahan Train operates departure two times every day. The first route is from Jakarta Gambir, starting at 10.30 am and the last is at 10.50 pm. Otherwise, the first departure from Solo Balapan is at 09.45 am and the last is at 10.35 pm.
