Bukit Gantang is a sub-district within Taiping district in Perak, Malaysia. It borders with Kampung Buaya of Kuala Kangsar district separating a hill known as Bukit Berapit.

Bukit Gantang got its name from a hill, whereby an instrument called ‘gantang’ or bushel was found there. A bushel is used to measure rice. It is a container shaped like a 2 kilogram powdered milk keg. A quart is a smaller measurement, whereby 4 quarts equal a bushel.

By Plane

There are flights to Ipoh provided by Malaysia Airlines, Malindo Air, Firefly and Air Asia. From the airport, guests may hail up a taxi to Bukit Gantang.

By Car

Travelling by car, driving from Kuala Lumpur by using the North-South Expressway (PLUS), exit is at Changkat Jering toll before continuing the journey towards Taiping to reach Bukit Gantang.

By Bus

Most express buses from Kuala Lumpur coming to Perak are based in Medan Gopeng in Ipoh. From Ipoh, guests may continue taking another bus ride towards Taiping to reach Bukit Gantang.

By Train

Other option is to take the north-bound train of Keretapi Tanah Melayu with the route KL Sentral – Butterworth that offers stops at Bukit Gantang Railway Station.

Bukit Gantang in relation to the early days of tin mining history in Perak marks the first railway station in Tanah Melayu. Bukit Gantang Railway Station served the first railway track that links Taiping to Port Weld in 1885. Apart from the historic railway station, ‘the longest train tunnel in South East Asia’ is also located nearby called the ‘Bukit Berapit Rail Tunnel’. It is a part of Ipoh-Padang Besar Electrified Double Tracking Project consisted of a 3300 metres long twin tunnel.

Being in close proximity with Taiping town, visitors to Bukit Gantang are drawn to enjoy and have a visit to Taiping. Among places of interest include Taiping Zoo and Night Safari and Taiping Lake Garden.
