Gua Musang is a district located in the southern area of Kelantan, Malaysia. Gua Musang is bordering to the state of Pahang to the south and bordering to Terengganu on the east side. Perak is also bordering to Gua Musang on the west side. Other districts of Kelantan are also bordering Gua Musang on the north. They are Kuala Krai and also Jeli. Gua Musang is also located 140 kilometres away from the capital of Kelantan, Kota Bharu. Gua Musang is also commonly known for being a railway town. The railway runs from Tumpat to Gemas. It is a small town that can be covered by foot easily.


The topography of Gua Musang is actually a barren hill of rocks and deceptive stone steps. It is as high as 105 metres. The railway track is located between the hill and the town.


How to Get There

By Plane

One can take a local flight such as Air Asia or Malaysia Airlines and Firefly and fly to the capital of Kelantan which is Kota Bharu. Then from the airport, the visitors will need to go to Gua Musang by taking either a taxi or Uber and Grab to head there. The Gua Musang Airport has very limited airline that lands here therefore it is not the first choice for those who wish to fly here.


By Car

Visitors may drive from Kuala Lumpur to Gua Musang. They may use the Kuala Lumpur – Gua Musang Expresway. It will take around 3 hours and 51 minutes to complete the drive. The distance is around 253.2 kilometres.


By Train

One can take a train to head to Gua Musang. The train that make their way there is the Keretapi Tanah Melayu. There are several routes that head to Gua Musang. So visitors are able to choose which station to alight from.

Taman Negara

Taman Negara is located in Pahang however Gua Musang is located nearby the northern gateway which is at Sg. Relau near Merapoh in Pahang. There is a small village in Merapoh acts as a pular starting point especially to those who wish to climb up Gunung Tahan. Here visitors will be able to see the biodiversity of the flora and fauna. It is also the home of many endangered species of animals and plants. It is of course highly advisable to have a local to guide the climb up. That way they will be able to explain and identify each plant along the way. If lucky, they might be able to spot some animals too. Hence having a guide will definitely make the climb more worth it.


Rock Climbing

In Gua Musang, there are many limestone hills and also caves. Therefore it is suitable for rock climbers to try the route here. The area is bolted with 30 routes from 5b to 7a. However the climbers will need to bring their own equipment as there are no equipment hire in town.
