Lawas is a small town in the northeastern corner of Sarawak state. It is located between the Temburong district of Brunei and Malaysia's Sabah state. Lawas and nearby Limbang were infamous for its wild activities such as prostitution, massage parlours, pubs and rundown motels were common in both towns. Since then, both towns have undergone a complete transformation following major urban redevelopment in the last decade and development has been done by constructing residential areas, shops, shopping centres, agriculture projects and roads. It is cut off from the rest of Sarawak and is more easily accessed from Sabah.

Lawas is also the starting point for the logging road to Ba Kelalan in the Sarawak Highlands. Completed in 2011, Lawas Waterfront or Sungai Lawas Waterfront is located in front of Hotel Seri Malaysia Lawas and Dataran Bandar Lawas. It is situated near Lawas Airport and has been a popular spot among local and international tourists to gather and enjoy the beautiful scenery of waterfront. By Plane

There are flights to Lawas Airport from Kuala Lumpur International Airport such as Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines. The journey takes around 3 hours and 55 minutes and once you reach the airport, you can take a taxi to Lawas Waterfront that will take another 3 minutes.

Pasar Besar and Pasar Tamu Lawas

Pasar Besar Lawas or the Central Market is open daily to cater the population around Lawas. It has wide selection of tropical fruits, exotic jungle produce and vegetable. Besides that, there are also clothing item, ironware and many other home essentials. As for Pasar Tamu, the open-air market is open weekly on from Friday evening until Saturday afternoon. There are local produce such as fresh fruits, vegetables, fresh meat, Adan rice, Bario rice, Ikan Tahai, Hill salts (Garam Bakelalan), handicraft traditional and live poultry are sold. Visitors can find almost everything at these markets and people are advised to come early as there are limited parkings and heavy traffic may occur.

Covers a cost of 120 million of construction, this three-storey shopping mall is located next to Hotel Seri Malaysia and Lawas Town Square.
