Tawau Hills Park is a recreational and national park located about 20 km away from Tawau town. Tawau Hills Park, was established in 1979, primarily known as a protection for the water catchment area of Tawau town, Sabah. The park covers an area of 27,972 hectares of land surrounded by oil palm and cacao plantations. Tawau Hills Park is an important water catchment area consists of five major rivers such as Tawau River, Merotai River, Kinabutan River, Mantri River and Balung River.

The park offers picnic areas, camping sites, and chalets. The Park contains rugged volcanic landscapes including a hot spring and spectacular waterfalls. The highest point in the park is Gunung Magdalena which was administered by the Sabah Parks. This park is also a popular spot for families and friends to enjoy a picnic or, for the more adventurous, spend a night camping under a blanket of stars. Many people visit Tawau Hills Park during the school holidays or during weekends.

How to Get There

By Plane

You can board Malaysia Airlines and Air Asia to Tawau Airport. From the airport you may take taxi to Tawau Hills Park where it takes 54 minutes’ drive from airport to Tawau Hills Park.

By Car

You can drive to reach Tawau Hills Park from Tawau Town. To get to Tawau Hills Park from Tawau town, you can go to the road that leads to Jalan Muhibbah and Jalan Air Panas roads. Follow the signage until you see the Tawau Hills Park, drive another 8 km, you will arrive at Tawau Hills Park.

By Bus

If you travel from Kota Kinabalu you can board long distance express bus to Tawau Town which was 8 hour journey. Once you reach Tawau Town, you need to get a taxi to Tawau Hilss Park which costs RM 30 one way.
