By Plane

Pasar Tamu and Pasar Utama

Pasar Tamu & Pasar Utama are two markets located near each other which can be easily recognised from afar by their cone-shaped roofs symbolize the traditional Melanau headgear, the terendak. These markets are famous among Bintulu community for its wide ranges of local produce and the famous ‘Bintulu Belacan’ or the shrimp paste.

The Pasar Utama is both a wet and fish market and the top floor of this market has stalls selling local hawker food favourites. Visitors can find local delicacies such as mee jawa, rojak, laksa and cendol. Besides Pasar Utama, Pasar Tamu also offers produce and goods from wild and jungle products as well as traditional food such as apam balik, roti canai, and nasi campur. Non-Muslims can also dine on pork delicacies such as siew pau. Besides food, there are also clothing, handbags, cigarettes and liquor.

Similajau National Park

The national park was gazetted in the year of 1976 and acts as a home and natural habitat for flora and fauna. There are many types of flora species such as the herbal Tongkat Ali which aids in men's fertility and many beneficial herbs, leaves and colourful flowers. Besides flora, there is also wildlife like birds and hornbills as well as crocodiles. Crocodiles are more easily spotted at night, and the staffs at park headquarters can arrange crocodile spotting boat trips for visitors. Besides that, there is horseshoe crabs can often be found on the beaches and green turtles frequently come ashore to lay their eggs at Golden Beach and the two Turtle Beaches. There are also occasional landings by hawksbill and leatherback turtles. All marine turtles and dolphin can be seen, usually between March and September. Similajau National Park also features beaches such as Batu Mandi, View Point, Batu Anchau, Selunsur Rapid, Sebubong Pool, Turtle Beach and Golden Beach that are located nearby each other. These national park also offers many recreational activities including snorkeling, bird watching, jungle trekking, sea and river cruising.
