Bukit Merah is located under the district of Kerian in the state of Perak, Malaysia. It is close to Gunung Semanggol, Taiping and Kuala Kurau. Previously there was a damp built here and it has submerged part of the area causing a wide fresh water lake to be created. Part of it has been developed into Bukit Merah Laketown Resort by a developer; Emkay Sdn Bhd. Bukit Merah Laketown Resort is one of the most famous water parks in Malaysia. It is also a village of 11,000 people. It is quite close to the capital state, Ipoh. It is around 1 hour and 7 minutes to reach Ipoh. It is around 86.6 kilometers apart.

The fare will be less than RM5.
Another alternative to go to Tambun would be via train. From KL Central, one may take the train to Ipoh. Currently the trains towards Ipoh are all using electricity. It takes the same amount of time as a bus or a car that heads to Ipoh. The fare is around RM35 per way. Then from the Ipoh Train Station, visitors may either take the bus or the taxi to go to Bukit Merah.
Bukit Merah Laketown Resort is a recreational park with a theme of Lake Park that is very interesting and beautiful. It is located at Tasik Semanggol. Perak has collaborated with Emkay Snd Bhd owner to turn this park into one of the tourist attraction of Perak. It is as big as 4.4 acres and is surrounded by greenery. This park not only has a water park, it also has a gondola, Orang Utan Island as well as a mini zoo. The orang utan island was created in a way that the humans are the ones made to be in the cage while the orang utans are left to roam free. The mini zoo on the other hand has quite the variety of animals such as bears, reptiles as well as birds.
There are several malay village in the area of Bukit Merah. Here visitors may take a tour to these villages and look at Malay house and their schools. Visitors on this tour also will be able to learn how to weave a grass mat. This way, visitors will be able to learn more about the culture.
