Sekolah Kebangsaan Pusat is government primary school located in Jerteh, Terengganu. The school was established in 1938 and was known as Sekolah Melayu or Malay School. Back in that day, there was only one teacher to teach almost forty students. The numbers of student reached its peak in 1994, with 1499 students. The numbers of students declined right after that thanks to the newly opened schools nearby. The school has opened two preschool classes in 2003. Today, the school has more than 60 teachers with around 950 students. The SK Pusat Jerteh is located just four minutes from the town of Jerteh, just along the Kota Bharu-Kuala Terengganu route.
The drive to the town of Jerteh, Besut will take about one hour and forty minutes from the capital city of Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu. Kuala Lumpur to Jerteh will take almost six hours driving via the East Coast Highway.
There are buses from Kuala Terengganu and the price for the ticket starts from RM 15.80, one-way. The bus trip will take about two hours to reach the Jerteh bus terminal from Kuala Terengganu. The ticket price from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan, Kuala Lumpur starts from RM 44 and it will take almost eight hours to reach Jerteh.
Kuala Terengganu has an airport receives daily flights from Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Tawau, Sabah. The airport, the Sultan Mahmud Airport, is just an hour and thirty minutes from Jerteh. Kelantan, the neighbouring state of Terengganu, also has an airport with flights from a number of airports in Malaysia including Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. The Sultan Ismail Petra Airport of Kelantan is also an hour and thirty minutes away, but it is just under seventy kilometres whilst the Sultan Mahmud Airport is almost 100 kilometres from Jerteh.
Lata Belatan Amenity Forest is located in the district of Besut, some 24 kilometres away from the town of Jerteh. It is one of the popular destinations for nature’s lovers. The Lata Belatan Amenity Forest opens daily for the public from as early as 8 am until 5 pm. This beautiful place is located within the Gunung Tebu Forest Reserve thus plenty of greenery and vegetation are expected, together with freshest air. Apart from that, there is a crystal clear lake, with striking blue hue to it in Lata Belatan. The Lata Belatan is also a great place to have a camping trip as the place offers overnight stays for anyone who applied at the Terengganu Forestry department. There is an entrance fee applied to everyone who enters the place starting in January 2013.
Terengganu is well-known for its astounding stretch of beaches and in the district of Besut has its own, the Bukit Keluang Beach. The Bukit Keluang Beach has located just seventeen kilometres away from the town of Jerteh and it will take twenty minutes’ worth of driving. The Bukit Keluang Beach is a unique stretch of beach due to the rock formations on the beach and these had formed small caves. These small caves were said to be the secret places for the pirates to hide their loots. Today, these small caves are connected to one another with a stretch of wooden walkways that makes it easier for the tourists to explore them. The beach is perfect for any kind of family activities. There are also resorts nearby for those who wanted to stay overnight at the beach.
