Kluang name derives from the Malay word “keluang” which means a type of flying fox or a fruit bat that used to be plentiful within the district. Nowadays, keluang have nearly extinct due to the hunting activities as well as deforestation that destroys their natural habitat. Kluang has also believed to be named after two mountains that resemble the head and wings of the so called animal looking from a distance.

Kluang is a district in Johore, Malaysia. Kluang district is bordered by Segamat in the north, Batu Pahat in the west, Mersing in the east while the southern borders with Kota Tinggi, Kulai and Pontian. Kluang is considered the central district as it borders the most districts in Johore. Kluang district consisted of 8 sub-districts altogether, namely Kahang, Kluang town, Layang-layang, Machap, Niyor, Paloh, Renggam and Ulu Benut.

How to Get There

By Plane

There are flights to Senai International Airport provided by Malaysia Airlines and Air Asia. From the airport, guests may hail up a taxi to Kluang.

By Car

People driving from Kuala Lumpur may drive through the Projek Lebuhraya Utara-Selatan (PLUS) Expressway exiting either at Ayer Hitam exit or Simpang Renggam exit before continuing the journey to Kluang.

By Bus

The express bus terminal is located in Jalan Bakawali next to Plaza BCB. Among the available express bus services are Fivestar that carry passengers from Singapore, KKKL and S&S International that carry passengers from Kuala Lumpur or Johor Bahru.

An iconic Kluang landmark is the Kluang Railway Station located at Jalan Stesen. Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) Intercity offers stop at the Kluang Railway Station.

Tourist Attractions

The UK Farm in Kluang was founded in 2010 and is ‘Malaysia’s largest farm with 6000 sheeps’. Visitors to the farm get to feed the lambs and enjoy horseback riding. Visiting the Zenxin Organic Park in Kluang takes visitors to love organic fruits and vegetables. There are banana garden, cucumber garden, dragonfruit garden, mulberry garden and many more to explore. Another attractive farm is the Kahang Organic Rice Eco Farm (KOREF) whereby it is the ‘first certified organic rice farm in Malaysia’.

Kluang is also quite famous for its nature outdoor experience. The highest point in Kluang is Gunung Lambak and in the western part of Kluang lies the Gunung Belumut. Both Gunung Lambak and Gunung Belumut offer amazing scenery of the rainforest and suitable for any trekking and camping activities.

The ancient Kluang Railway Station built in 1911 boasts with its famous coffee shop ‘The Kluang Railcoffee’ that has been in operation since 1938. It is best to sip a coffee during the train arrival times.

Kluang is also famous for its “Golden Pillow” biscuit. Originating bakeries in Kluang made this strip-shaped Shanghai mooncake. To cope with hot weather, visitors may search for the Shangri La Ice Kacang ice cream shop.
