Sungai Jawi is an administrative city located in the Seberang Perai Selatan District Government Office Complex, Penang. It takes its name after the river that runs through the area, Sungai Jawi. The main village in that area is also called Sungai Jawi located to the northeast of Nibong Tebal. The settlement of Jawi is between Valdor in the north and Nibong Tebal in the south. The old village houses have been replaced with modern commercial terrace shoplots. Among the villages and settlements in the Jawi area include Kampung Jawi, Pekan Sungai Jawi, Taman Jawi Jaya, Kampung Makau Suah, Taman Seruling Emas, Taman Kesuma and Kampung Changkat Diam. Besides that, the nearby towns around Sungai Jawi are Nibong Tebal, Sungai Bakap, Valdor and Bukit Panchor and the main shopping centre or groceries centre is Econsave Jawi.

By Train

From Kuala Lumpur Railway Station to Penang , it takes 3 hour 24 minutes and the cost of ticket is about RM 60 to RM 95 depends on seating.

By Car

The journey by car consumes around 3 hours and 20 minutes from Kuala Lumpur by North- South highway to Sungai Jawi, Penang.

Penang Bird Park

Established since 1988, the 5-acre park is located 18 minutes away from Sungai Jawi and has a collection of more than 300 species of birds from all over the world, of which more than 150 species are of Malaysian species. There are hornbills, sunbirds, and pheasants collection. All the birds here are housed in more than 150 cages for breeding and conservation purposes. Besides birds, there are also various animals such as the estuarine crocodile, arapaima which is freshwater fish from the Amazon River in South America, 18 ft-long giant pythons, giant soft-shelled turtles and more than 20 timid leaf monkeys. There are free parking for all cars and coaches and entrance fee for adult is RM 10, children (below 12 year-old) is- RM 5, school Children with school uniform is RM2, camera is RM1, physically and/or mentally handicapped & under privileged persons are allowed free entrance.
