Batu Caves is one of the popular tourist attractions in Selangor and Malaysia and its main attraction is the large statue of the Hindu God at the entrance and a steep 272 steps to view the stunning skyline of the city centre. Batu Caves, one of Kuala Lumpur’s most frequented tourist attractions comprised of three major caves and a number of smaller ones. This temple was discovered on 1892 features idols and statues placed inside the main caves and around it. The temple is considered an important religious landmark by Hindus attracts thousands of worshippers and tourists, especially during the annual Hindu festival, Thaipusam and paintings and scenes of Hindu Gods can be seen in the Ramayana Cave.. The procession begins on the evening before the Thaipusam Festival at the Sri Mariamman Temple in KL city centre. There are also monkeys around the caves and it is a popular spot for rock climbing enthusiasts.
Batu Caves is accessible by car or taxi as it is situated beside the main highway of MRR2 in Batu Caves area. The easiest way is by taxi and car and for tourists from KLIA Sepang, it will take around an hour to reach Batu Caves by using ELITE highway
There is also the KTM Komuter train service from KL Sentral to Batu Caves. It will take approximately 35 minutes at least.
From KL Sentral, take the monorail service to Titiwangsa station and take the bus to Batu Caves. Besides that, take Intrakota bus No 11D from the Central Market or the Cityliner bus No 69 at Jalan Pudu to get to Batu Caves. You can also reach here via the Bus U6 from Titiwangsa.
There are several caves that have attracted tourists and visitors to come here. Among them are Temple Cave which Hindu devotees established a temple in the grand cathedral discovered by Hornaday. The cave became a shrine for Lord Murugan, a Hindu deity popular among the Tamils in 1892. Since then, Hindu devotees started making pilgrimages to the caves, climbing up rocks to the temple cave about 50 metres above the ground. Other than that, there is dark cave that is located three quarters of the way up the stairs to the main temple cave. It consists of a total of two kilometres surveyed passages, with its own special features of magnificent and exquisite cave formations and features such as stalactite, stalagmite, flowstone, cave pearls, cave curtains and many more. These places involved history of Hindu religion hundred years ago. Batu Caves provides educational tour around 45-minute walk-in tour where you learn about the history, the ecosystem and the geological formations of caves. Visitors also have the opportunities of climbing, sliding and crawling through the infamous Crawl Passage and advised to be careful and wear proper shoes. The charges for educational tour is RM35 and rm 28 for adult and children below 10 years respectively.
