Bukit Keluang Beach is a well-known recreational beach that one could find in Kuala Besut town area to have a family gathering, team bonding or retreat via picnicking, strolling through the beach or just sunbathing. Situated in the sub-district or mukim of Kuala Besut, it is three kilometers away from Air Tawar Beach which is also famous, and accessible from the town of Besut via Route 84 and T167 with driving time of less than 10 minutes.
This beach is unique for having rocky structures that forms smaller caves. Historically, these caves were used as a hideout for the pirates, but these days, it has been developed for tourism purposes. To access these caves, a walking platform has been built which could be utilized by the visitors so that they can venture each caves and beaches nearby from an elevation. In addition to that, it also has beautiful waters and beaches, hence explaining a lot of resorts setting up shop here in order to capitalize on this beauty as well providing a place to rest for the visitors after a long day at the beach.
From the main road, the beach is in close proximities to traditional Malay villages, schools, mosques, shops and higher education institutes such as Institut Latihan Islam Malaysia Wilayah Timur. Named after a hill nearby of the same name, the hill too is an interesting tourist spot and is said to possess a magnificent coastal view from the peak. Due to its popularity, the amount of visitors are always high during the weekends and school holidays.
There are flights to Sultan Mahmud Airport of Kuala Terengganu or Sultan Ismail Petra Airport of Kota Bharu from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) which are provided by both Malaysia Airlines and Air Asia. Upon touchdown from either of these airports, guests may hail up a taxi or other public transportation to go to Bukit Keluang Beach.
People driving from Kuala Lumpur may drive through E8 route for direct access to Bukit Keluang Beach. The journey could take up around five hours and forty minutes depending on the current traffic situation.
The express bus terminal is located at Jalan Kota Bharu – Kuala Terengganu, Jerteh. Take the trip directly to Jerteh from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) terminal using express bus services such as Queen Express or Perdana Express before opting for taxis or local route buses to reach Bukit Keluang Beach.
Known as the best paragliding park in the east coast region, Kota Putera Exreme Paragliding Park is opened to the public since 2016. The thrill seekers would have the chnce to attempt flying high at an altitude of 300 to 540 feet crossing through Bubus Hill at a fee of a hundred ringgit which includes photo taking. Managed by the Besut District Land Administrative office, the park is developed in phases by the Terengganu Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) to offer another option for paragliding in the country in addition to the one in Mount Jerai, Kedah.
