Malacca was founded by Parameswara which was called Iskandar Shah or Sri Majara, the last Raja of Singapore following a Majapahit attack in 1377. Before the arrival of the first Sultan, Malacca was a simple fishing village inhabited by local Malay people. In the year 1400, the sultan found his way to Malacca where he found an accessible port and it was located on a strategic point of the Malacca Strait. How to Get There

By Car

Malacca can be accessed from the North-South Expressway and you can drive along the E2 route and exit the expressway at the Ayer Keroh. One can leave the highway at the Simpang Empat exit and proceed through normal road, as an alternative road. Depending on current traffic, the drive from Simpang Empat to Malacca will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes.

Bus

You can also reach Malacca city by bus from Kuala Lumpur which usually takes 2 hours depending on traffic. Bus usually leaves from Terminal Bas Bersepadu (TBS).

Jonker Street

Flanked on both sides of the road with heritage houses which were built from the 17th century, Jonker Street is a street in the historical Chinatown of Melaka, which is located across the river from the Dutch Square. Baba and Nyonya which is also known as Peranakans, are the descendants of the 15th to 16th-century Chinese immigrants. They married local Malay women, then lived and operated their business back then. Up until today, there are still history traces of them that can be found here.The famous Jonker Street is always filled with local and international tourists. The street is closed off for traffic on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the evening and shops open until 12 midnight.
