Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) is a public university based primarily in Shah Alam. It was established in 1956 as RIDA Training Center (Rural & Industrial Development Authority) and opened its doors to some 50 students with a focus to help the rural Malays. The training centre later became known as MARA College in 1965. In 1967, the college was upgraded to MARA Institute of Technology. Its establishment came as a response to a need in Malaysia for trained professionals, especially among Bumiputera.

In August 1999, the institute was upgraded to university and the Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced the change in name of ITM to MARA University of Technology. With such acknowledgement from the government, a major restructuring exercise was carried out in order to consolidate the University's resources for optimum productivity.

By Plane

University Technology Mara is accessible by a flight where you can fly to Kuala Lumpur International Airport from any major airports around the world. From the airport, you can take a taxi to University Technology Mara. The distance from the airport to the university is about 49 km or 35 minutes’ drive from the airport.

By Car

University Technology Mara is easily accessible by major highway and expressway. If you are from Kuala Lumpur and Selangor you may reach University Technology Mara via Federal Highway, North Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) and Duta Ulu Klang Expressway (DUKE). If you travel from South and North Peninsular of Malaysia you may use North-South Expressway to reach University Technology Mara.

By Train

You can take the train from KL Sentral to University Technology Mara and disembark at KTM Shah Alam Station, Padang Jawa Station, Batu Tiga Station or Kelana Jaya LRT Station. From the station, you need to grab a taxi or bus to the university.

By Bus

You can take RapidKL Bus T604 services between Seksyen 7, Shah Alam and UiTM, Shah Alam. You also can board RapidKL buses U80 and T603 to reach UiTM Shah Alam.
